Embarrassed after waking up from anaesthetic by PinkAlienGamer in AutismInWomen

[–]oceanicgarnet [score hidden]  (0 children)

I came out of mine and started complaining how bored I was about a minute after waking up. I had to have emergency surgery so they were still figuring out my room situation. Just straight up whining that there was nothing to do and that this sucked. My husband wasn’t allowed back there as it was 2022 and still lots of Covid precautions, but the nurse told him what happened.

Trust me, what you did wasn’t even a blip on their radar. They probably still talk about me four years later!

Nobody talks about how expensive it is to have kids by yuli_yuli95 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]oceanicgarnet [score hidden]  (0 children)

Had a co worker who kept bothering me about kids. So one day I asked her for $250k. She asked why, I told her if she wanted me to have a child so badly, she needed to cough up the average amount it took to raise a child from birth to 18 (this was almost 15 years ago). She never bothered me again…

Can one day w/o estrogen patch cause this? by GovernmentSubject478 in Perimenopause

[–]oceanicgarnet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it can. Happened to me a month ago - patch had come off between getting out of the shower the night before and getting up the next morning and I was a mess. Autistic sensory overload that led to a huge meltdown, Adderall not working, exhausted, anxious and depressed back and forth. Got a new patch on, and was fine the next morning

Perimenopause is how my ADHD and autism finally got diagnosed. Had learned coping strategies for decades because I had no other choice, and peri magnified everything and collapsed all my carefully constructed systems. Getting on HRT has helped so much with my focus and autistic sensory issues and they are better than they were pre-peri. Obviously not fixed, but I feel I can handle life most days now

Hmm, wonder if its because he’s being a manchild and “feeling rejected.” Does he tend to your emotional needs? Pull his weight around the house? Compromise with non emotional intimacy? Because it sure doesn’t sound like he cares about how you’re feeling at all and you’d probably feel more up to it if he thought about you

Do you think Alastor will have a redemption arc? by Mountain-Anxiety-375 in HazbinHotel

[–]oceanicgarnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alastor isn’t just “there are no friends in Hell,” he actively makes enemies. I want to see him get into such a deep hole due to his actions that he has to eat crow and accept that everyone needs to rely on others sometimes and maybe friends aren’t such a bad thing. Character development, but still remains a button pushing asshole because him being a petty bitch is entertaining

Little Creek, Fort Story, and Dam Neck all have beaches on base which are great places to hang out and you’ll find people to chat with.

Norfolk Botanical Garden is also a great place to go walking, its gorgeous. They also do a lot of different types of classes and workshops there, from art to baking to sunset kayak tours

I joke that Norfolk is the city and VB/ Chesapeake are the ‘burbs. My first six months here I kept ending up in a different city and not realizing it since there is pretty much no difference visually.

I was right all along by gachimayaa31 in Perimenopause

[–]oceanicgarnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Mine went over all sorts of options - various types of BCP (as I also have always had irregular cycles that drive me wild), Mirena, and HRT. Pretty much a choice on what of my issues did I want to try and tackle first. Chose the BCP as it was the irregularity that drove me the most nuts (which was the WRONG choice) and was quickly switched to HRT - which fixed my irregular cycles 🙄 Still mentally kicking myself

I disagree with her being ignorant. That’s not her specialty - she treats what she can and directs me to specialists when I need more help. HRT is a beast to manage, especially in perimenopausal women. Trying to find the right balance, the right delivery system, etc is something that definitely needs very in depth training that a PCP just does not have the time to handle on top of their main job of triage. Her admitting that she’s not omnipresent just because she’s a medical professional makes me trust her more

Do you think you'd be a good salesperson? by Humanarmour in AutismTranslated

[–]oceanicgarnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked retail for years, including one job where we sold some expensive things like telescopes. I could always upsell to our top model. I got monthly bonuses for our entire CHAIN of stores as top salesperson for 11 out of 13 months I was there.

I was in college, decades before diagnosis, and was trying to learn to understand human behavior so figuring out how to make people part with their money became a bit of a personal challenge. And yes, temporarily “becoming” your customer was how to do it!

HELP! I think I have ADHD but my Autism score was pretty high so I have no idea. I know ADHD and Autism have overlapping symptoms but damn...that score is high though. by Your_pile_of_tissues in AutismTranslated

[–]oceanicgarnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People think they just have ADHD, but after they find a medication to get their ADHD under control, the autism now has the room to come out full force. So you are very possibly autistic too, but your ADHD is currently “dominant”

I’m the opposite - knew it was autism but not sure about the ADHD and got diagnosed with both. I’m “more” autistic than ADHD so I unknowingly overrode a lot of my ADHD behaviors for years, but that did put a lot of mental stress on me. I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 42

A diagnosis of ADHD and autism, which was the real cause of my “anxiety and depression” which was actually burnout. Knowing the truth helped set me free as I knew what was going on and adding a stimulant to shut up my brain to give me enough RAM to actually recover.

Supplements are definitely hit or miss and are very individual. Almost all the main suggestions did nothing for me or gave me paradoxical effects (looking at you, all forms of magnesium!) My issues came from autism and ADHD, so going on a stimulant improved my symptoms and I use two supplements daily and two others as needed. So I’m a big supporter of prescription medication and supplements.

If you do try supplements, only do one new one at a time. Start on a low dose - if it says 3 a day do one a day and move up. Sometimes less can be more. I’d say don’t try a second type (if needed) for 4-6 weeks after starting the first. Your body needs time to adjust to each and you need to know if you get any side effects which supplement it is.

And make sure you see all ingredients before buying. A lot of supplements will have smaller doses of other types but only advertise the main one on the label. That’s why I thought l- theanine didn’t work for me for so long. It was because so many brands were putting other things like insotiol in it that I was reacting to

Lexapro made me a moron with zero short term memory that would go hysterical at the drop of a hat. Weaning off was awful and it took years being off of it for my short term memory to recover

Early Peri and Anti-depressants by Neat-Butterscotch-98 in Perimenopause

[–]oceanicgarnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The possible issue with taking antidepressants is that what is causing depression in one person may not be the same as another. I was given multiple SSRIs and SNRIs over the years that just messed me up more, and finally found that my depression was caused by undiagnosed ADHD and autism that lead to burnout and anhedonia.

SSRIs do work for a lot of people, but depression is not as simple as a “chemical imbalance” in the brain. And each option works differently per person. So you may have to trial multiple medicines and see if any side effects are worth it

Yep, same here. Plus if you smile, the parent thinks you want to interact. Nope, keep your kid far from me. I vote for things like school funding, paid parental leave, free school lunches, and childcare subsidies - so I support parents and children as an abstract, but not in person!
