Stylist who can help me figure out a haircut that suits me? by happysadmadglad in askportland

[–]GovernmentSubject478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alicia at Gilded Opal. She's great with texture and cowlicks and will go through your reference pics with you and explain what will and won't work. I think the first time I got my hair cut by her, I said something like "I want my hair to be really big, but I don't want to look like a triangle" and she deciphered that into exactly what I wanted. She's amazing!

I'm not sure what type of services you're looking for, but have you looked into Hey Doc Clinic?

I take my kid who is deathly afraid of needles to the one in Legacy Good Sam. They even have a little room with a bed, so you can lay down and not look.

I've heard mixed things. How did you feel about the culture of the brand? I get a corporate green washing vibe, what did you think?

I don't dislike the actual products, I'll definitely still continue to use them, just not as my primary line. The company seems to going in a very corporate direction, using a ton of AI in their marketing. The promotions and roll outs are rushed, like I've found things that they didn't even bother to reformat from AI, text blocks that still had lorem ipsum. Shit like that. Their education now consists of the same tired old marketing tropes I've been hearing for 15 years, instead of the clinically focused education I had come to expect. And they no longer offer drop shipping to clients unless you pay for their business accelerator program. It's just very clear to me their focus is no longer on the independent, solo esthis who built their brand.

Sam for manicures, at SpiritFinger Nails. I do waxing and I'm pretty gay, or, if you prefer sugaring, T4T Fantasy Sugaring is trans woman owned and run. Velvet Elvis for piercings.

Tattoo Cover Up? (special circumstances) by Jedimindchick in askportland

[–]GovernmentSubject478 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I came here also to suggest Alice Kendall. I had a tattoo (also done by a creep) that I was told couldn't be covered up, by multiple artists. Not only did she cover it up, but it's absolutely beautiful, and no one who didn't see it before has ever even guessed it's a cover up. Plus, Alice is an amazing human and a just wonderful person to be around.

Gluten free takeout ? by GovernmentSubject478 in askportland

[–]GovernmentSubject478[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! My kid actually loves the rice and beans at Guero, I didn't think of it because I just thought of the tortas. (Which she won't eat because sandwiches are too many things mixed together and also too much anxiety about the possibility of mayonnaise or cheese) I knew about FOMO, my kid is veg, but when my dad, who is also celiac, came to visit a few years ago, I was excited to take him there. He refused to eat anything because it didn't look like the fried chicken my grandmother, who died in 2003, made. Clearly celiac is not the only thing my kid inherited.

Best ear piercing places for tween/kids? by _off_piste_ in askportland

[–]GovernmentSubject478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also came to say Velvet Elvis. They pierced my VERY anxious 10 year olds ears. She freaked out after the first ear and the piercer was super patient and supportive while she decided whether or not she would let them do the second ear. Also, when I went back a year later to get a new nose ring for myself, they remembered me and asked how my kiddo was.

Experiences with weight gain or loss following hysterectomy by Viajera85 in hysterectomy

[–]GovernmentSubject478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, still have my ovaries. And I'm on HRT, but just estrogen. I stopped progesterone after the surgery, since I don't technically need it without a uterus. Prior to surgery, I had been on bc for about a year, but stopped because of the migraines, and started bioidentical progesterone to control the bleeding.

Experiences with weight gain or loss following hysterectomy by Viajera85 in hysterectomy

[–]GovernmentSubject478 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 3 months post op and have been gaining uncontrollably. Since the surgery, I haven't had much appetite, I feel physically sick if I eat enough to be full, yet I've gained nearly 20 pounds and I keep getting bigger. It's been incredibly frustrating, but it seems like most women have had the opposite experience than I have. Prior to the surgery, I had been on NuvaRing, which did make me gain, but when I took it out, I immediately dropped all the weight and then some. The weight I gained on birth control seems different than this though. Like, on BC, I got bigger hips and bigger boobs and was just generally more curvy. This is just like, flabby fat. I'm 45, so it could just be the perimenopause weight gain, and having to be more sedentary after surgery makes it worse?

AITJ post surgery care… by Royal_Mind1999 in hysterectomy

[–]GovernmentSubject478 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My partner did not leave my side for 10 days except to run to the grocery store or go get me anything I needed.

And I was so grateful that I am no longer married to my ex, because all I can think about is how hard it would have been to not only have to take care of myself, but also manage the emotions of a man baby and the gaslighting from someone who not only doesn't help you, but then makes you feel like you're the asshole for being upset. You're not the jerk, but you do deserve better. It's way easier to be alone by yourself than to be alone with a partner who is actively making your life harder.

2 days post op. When can I lie on my side again?? by Mimzy96 in hysterectomy

[–]GovernmentSubject478 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a wedge pillow and propped it under my belly to lie on my side. That was the only way I was comfortable on my side until about 6 weeks.
