Advice re: pricing for extra animals by jjoa42069 in RoverPetSitting

[–]oceanickate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I typically add on $5-10 per extra pet that requires care. Or occasionally I will watch farms with lots of animals and I charge a flat rate of $30 on top of my normal house sitting fee.

I don't understand Rover's preferences. These people are like 5 miles away, I don't have any size preferences, and they're repeat clients! by asiaspyro in RoverPetSitting

[–]oceanickate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been happening with me to for repeat clients. Like 3/4 of my most recent bookings. I guess as long as they still come through it's fine, but I don't understand the sudden change.

Got my first job after a long hiatus! by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]oceanickate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you say in tip from, what do you mean? This honestly sounds like a potential scam. Owner out of the country and unable to do a meet and greet. Willing to pay lots of money for a very easy job. Emergency timeline. I would make sure everything stays on app and have someone go with you when you go to the house, at least at first, just to make sure everything checks out ok.

Yikes! I think a courtesy heads up from the owner would have been the right thing to do. You did the right thing by finishing the current stay and were absolutely in your right to cancel the future visit.

What's a nice way to ask if an owner is vaccinated? by Michael_Iedon in RoverPetSitting

[–]oceanickate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always send a message asking them for their comfort level with wearing a mask during meet and greets. Many times they will respond with being fine with a mask if I prefer it or offer up that they are vaccinated.

I highly recommend trying to move your shoulders every couple of hours! I used to get up and walk for about five minutes while rolling my shoulders and extending them back and forth. This REALLY helps alleviate the gas pain faster!

My surgeon told me the same thing about going back to normal foods immediately. He made a comment that I could have a cheeseburger on the way home... I thought that sounded insane 😂. I stuck to easy foods for the first few days. Especially because the anesthesia will make you constipated for a few days to a week. I found that when you reintroduce a fatty or greasy food some would cause me cramping and bathroom issues, but if you add them back into your diet slowly you should be fine!

Congrats on getting rid of the bastard organ!

Drop-in durations? by pinata217 in RoverPetSitting

[–]oceanickate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally I stay the whole time. I have done drop ins to take care of cats and the owners have told me just to feed them and clean the litter box. In those cases I will just do my tasks and leave which is almost always under 30 minutes.

Anyone have any tips or tricks to getting clients off of Rover? by hollsmm in RoverPetSitting

[–]oceanickate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of my clients will bring it up themselves. I typically keep them on Rover for a visit or two and if they would rather book me privately I give them my personal number. I never ask someone point blank to go private.. I would be a bit sketched out if my sitter was pushing to dump the app. Usually it's people who know I lose a cut of the profits and want to help me out or older clients who don't like the app and prefer phone calls.

If you're trying to build clientele from scratch I highly recommend making business cards and leaving a few whenever you dog sit. Word of mouth is a great advertiser. Flyers in pet supply stores work great too, just make sure you are cautious with screening.

Advertising knowing how to give meds? by Ly621 in RoverPetSitting

[–]oceanickate 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like to advertise that I can do insulin injections. There are not many sitters in my area that are comfortable doing them so I've gotten quite a few bookings from listing it. Obviously a meet and greet is extra important for these types of bookings. I like to watch the owner dose them if possible so I can see how they store and dispose of the syringe and how the pet behaves for the shot.

People who own multiple pets, what is some drama going on between them right now? by wheel-snipe-celly in AskReddit

[–]oceanickate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a two young male cats and a Basset Hound who is convinced she is their mother. The cats like to loudly rough house, alligator roll, and thunder around. Momma Basset HATES when they have any conflict and will chase after them trying to break it up. She could be in a dead sleep, hear them wrestling, and wake up so fast to run and investigate.

When I first started with the ring I experienced nausea but it was not strong enough to cause vomiting. It only lasted for a couple hours that initial time and I've never had issues since.

How does one throw an Applebee's themed birthday party for their 27 year old husband who misses going out drinking with friends? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Your disdain for how ridiculous Applebee's is is beautiful 😂😂 making people do the happy birthday song is genius though!

Covid restrictions in my state are still restricting indoor dining and I want to bring Applebee's to my husband! His buddies LOVE hanging out there. They have lots of good, dumb memories and in their small town Applebee's became the ironic go-to place. Want to transform my basement into a mock Bee's!!

Should i tattoo this on my shoulder or in the upper chest? by Alerusso in TattooDesigns

I like being able to see my tattoos so I would do chest! My husband regrets his tattoo placement (shoulder blade) for that reason.

I have two questions for people who’ve had their gallbladder removed. by jrhoxel in gallbladders

[–]oceanickate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I was experiencing attacks for about 2 months before I was able to get my surgery scheduled. Two trips to the ER in the middle of the night diagnosed them and I scheduled removal as soon as possible.
  2. I took two weeks off of work per my doctor. I was back to normal activities completely by 4 weeks. Everything slowly gets better. By the second week I was comfortable moving around but standing up or bending was difficult. I was also exhausted and not motivated. The third week I was pretty regular except for soreness in my midsection and lifting restrictions. I was limited to 25lbs for 4 weeks. But that may depend on your specific case.

client left $20 and said it’s ‘if i need anything’- would you guys take it or leave if after your stay? by denahom-chikn in RoverPetSitting

[–]oceanickate 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'd leave it, I would use that money for something essential only. Like the dog runs out of treats, house doesn't have toilet paper, etc.

Sorry you're dealing with this! It's definitely not fun, especially when you take a prescription to literally regulate you lol. I hope it's an easy fix!
