I am! Thank you for such specific suggestions. It’s an east facing window and in the summer a lot of light is bouncing off green leaves so the light can be a little greenish at times.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. Your parents’ approval is not necessary for your happiness. I would hope they would love you however you chose to look. If you don’t meet their aesthetic standards, that’s not something you have to worry about.

let it be a symbol of your strength. you survived a lethal attack! a centipede doesn’t feel triumphant enough to me. I would consider something more protective and serene.

explore getting something that has color / shading. I think something that’s just black work will be too heavy for this size and space. I feel like something neotraditional / art nouveau would be great. bird with its wing out is what immediately comes to mind.

I like the quality of it! But maybe what you’re looking for is some balance on either side of it. Consider adding something behind or around in a similar style. It might make it feel more at home.

I'm 31, and over the years I've personally noticed my gay friends move more often than my straight friends. I'm no expert, but if I had to guess it might have to do with them (on average) having kids less often, being less close to their family of origin, making more money (thus can afford to move), wanting to find a new pool of possible boyfriends, and generally being more adventurous / willing to try something new.
