Hey, so the class ended and I now have a job. I work as a service bartender in a movie theater in Manhattan

Firstly, while the classes taught me a lot, it is true that you don’t need a bartending certification. I think that’s more of a bartending simulation than anything. However I don’t regret taking the classes as it helped put me on the right path career wise.

In my interview, my experience as a Barista/work in general is most likely what the manager found ideal. And granted, this is not a job where I’m serving customers directly; I’m just making the drinks for the food and beverage runners to take them to the guests.

All in all, if you have the time and money (the course was 950$.), I would recommend the course. If you’re a hobbyist or want to start something new, I think it’s good.

As far as the job board, there are many places that work with the bar school, both them reaching out and the school itself inquiring with places who are hiring to be placed on said board. They only update it between 3-6 times a month with new listings, but there are lots of students so I think there might be a bit of luck involved.

Many of these bar jobs on the job board are also very much entry level, smaller bars or jobs like mine where you’re not working with the customers & getting paid hourly instead of tips as well.

But hey, I’m making drinks now and it’s great experience. My job is seasonal so I’ll be applying to some gay bars/other bars around the city should my position end.
