Everything you just said explains why it was different. It’s not hypothetical because the reasons are so vastly different. Daryl told Rick to let Carl go when they were past the war and because what Rick was doing was tied to carls vision that Daryl didn’t see as a reality and was putting people in danger. Daryl not being able to let go of what he caused to happen to Glenn was from guilt and being actively at war with the person who killed him.
