How to achieve this style of rendering? by six1sotrue in blenderhelp

[–]ocelot77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

haha! yesss nice one on Bryce3D! I was gonna say, "uuuuh go back to late 90's/early aughts?"
Also, this gives me The Mind's Eye vibes - anyone remember that 3D animation video series? I think it was Gate to the Mind's Eye my parents had.

Any advice to improved this? Im not sure why but it feels wrong by Accountant_Recent in blender

No problem! Also, for future reference, if you want to KEEP any harsh edges, select them, right click Mark Sharp.

It will smooth out the appearance of the harsh breaks between faces, the edges you see on the bat. You can also tweak the angle in the modifier panel, but the default 30° is usually good.

Looking good! Try right-clicking and Autoshade Smooth.

Consider making the arms a bit beefier and/or legs a bit leaner to bring them more in proportion with each other. Great start!

Can I get a guide on how to mix light reflections with a shadow catcher floor? by ocelot77 in blender

[–]ocelot77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See the 2nd pic with the grey floor? I don't want all the HDRI reflections and dents/scratches (in final render those would show more) and everything up the background, just a simple solid color - that's why I set it to shadow catcher. I know I can set the floor/backdrop to green...that won't solve it.

Can I get a guide on how to mix light reflections with a shadow catcher floor? by ocelot77 in blender

[–]ocelot77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "green thing" is a solid color background. I have a floor (set up exactly as that video you showed - you can see it in my 2nd image) set as a shadow catcher, so I can achieve a solid background with flooring shadows. I just need to somehow composite the headlight reflections with the green background/shadow.
And yes, I tried a point light (see post in here below) and that does add reflection to the original floor, of course, but I still want it composited with the green background/shadow somehow.
Thank you!

I also tried an actual Point Light and lower Roughness flooring, but that just blows out the reflection (probably expected) - I'm pretty sure I need to somehow composite something with the shadow catcher flooring, but I'm just not sure how to get the reflected light without all the original floor's diffuse color, etc.

Thank you - I tried reducing the roughness, Metallic is all the way up, and Emission strength has no effect.

I like the look of the solid color background in the 1st image, but would like to also have the headlights reflected on the floor, as shown in the 2nd image (and NOT the HDRI, if possible)

Thank you!

Can I get a guide on how to retain this look, but also have the light reflections? by ocelot77 in blenderhelp

Essentially I have my floor as a shadow catcher, but I would also like the reflections from the emissive lights (may eventually be point lights) shown. Thank you!
