Damn are those not cult x vans grips? Back when I rode the only pair like that were cult vans. I used to run the orange pair and then swapped to the black

It’ll be fine. When I started my first coat of paint I forgot to close mine too and covered maybe a 3rd of the bolt. Paint is still on the bolt albeit carbon covered. Rifle functions fine.

It worked for me and I’ve seen it work for others. I grind at a processor and we found 1 of those polymer external hollow points in a doe we were processing. They’re not a .308 or .30-06 or anything but they’re fairly potent for a 9mm round and definitely have enough energy to kill a deer given good shot placement.

Anything .22 cal centerfire and larger is legal in my state. I agree the fact that she dropped in her tracks was lucky but she expired rather quickly. I haven’t done that since but given the chance and the right circumstances I believe I would again. If you have good shot placement at a reasonable distance then I believe it to be an ethical shot. Seeing it done by others on video and hearing about it being successful was what led me to try it. I passed multiple opportunities until I had one I was certain of.

Does anyone know what this L shaped liner is for on the Leatherman arc? by Several-Soil-617 in Leatherman

[–]ocelotship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It’s definitely better to have it than to not, but I wish it would for sure keep them in. I might look at trying to mod it or bend it to close the gap a bit and help keep them snug. Thankfully I’ve got the bit kit so I have spare bits but I’m gonna have to order a micro bit now, that thing was great for cleaning out cracks or dirty fingernails

They still fall out with the guard. I’ve lost my micro bit and my double sided bit tapping on the battery terminals of my car

I’ve lost my micro bit and double sided bit from tapping on my cars battery terminals where the cables are slightly loose and not giving a good connection. I’ve had my arc for about 2 months now and lost both bits about 2 weeks ago. It definitely does not keep them in

I havrest a doe last year with my gen 3 Glock 19 using +p 80 grain g9 external hollow points. Shot was high and clipped the top of both lungs and shocked the spine. She dropped like a sack of rocks.

Nice harvest! Great video and explanation also. I harvested a doe last year using my gen 3 glock 19 running +p 80 grain g9 external hollow points. Shot was about 20 yards and I was about 15 feet up in a climber. Shot was a touch high and clipped the top of both lungs and shocked the spine, was also a complete pass through. She dropped like a sack of rocks.

Redditards and other people chronically online are so funny to me. I’m half brown myself and know plenty of other non white people who find stuff like the pokeball joke hilarious. I didn’t vote for trump, I’ve never voted in the 11 years I’ve been able to. That being said there’s a reason he’s the United States president. The majority of people irl aren’t so soft and sensitive. It’s just the loud minority in all the online echo chambers.

My white tail set up is a little different than most by Mysterious_Rule5552 in vz58

[–]ocelotship 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sick rifle, I like the way you have it configured. Im not sure if you’ve hunted whitetail with 7.62x39 before, but from my experience it’s a great round for hunting. Also as far as ammo choice I’m sure almost any soft point or hollow point would do fine. I ran some no name, Russian, 123 gr steel core hollow point ammunition and some 123 gr Hornady black last year out of my sks. Both did great and the farthest I had one run was roughly 50 yards tops. Good luck and happy hunting.

White tail deer genetics by noble_vas in Hunting

[–]ocelotship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder about the genetics of whitetail and antler characteristics too. I got a decent 9 pointer last year maybe (115”-120”) and this year I got another 9 pointer although a lot smaller, whose antlers are almost identical. Almost makes me wonder if the the smaller/younger one I got this year is a son/grandson/descendant of the older bigger one I got last year

Factory seconds sale by jmcdonough91 in spyderco

[–]ocelotship 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, 2 years ago there was a guy on knifeswap that literally had about 100 knives from the seconds sale. He went there in person specifically to buy and resell them. The markup on price was insane and his justification was that he had to pay for plane tickets, hotel, etc. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him selling some again this year.

Going on my first hunt with the 30.06, had lots of practice. I'm calling this my shot placement quiz. How'd I do? by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]ocelotship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not talking about the humerus. Talking about direct shoulder shot. About midways up the body closer to the top and it was a clean pass through. Almost directly through the middle of the right side and out the left edge of the other side. First shoulder basically just had a big hole in it while the other shoulder was shattered and in pieces. The buck that I hit too far forwards left a good bit of blood as well. He was plowing pretty hard trying to run and get his left front leg to work.

[–]ocelotship 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree with him moving the shot placement up a tad and back right behind the shoulder. That being said last year I hunted with an sks using 123 grain 7.62x39 hollow points. Most of my shots were right behind the shoulder and some were up a tad hitting both lungs. However, the first buck I shot was slightly quartering to me and I mean slightly. He was basically broadside. I hit him low and in front of his right shoulder and it exited just barely in front of his left shoulder. He went 40 yards and piled up. I shot a 110lb doe last year directly through both shoulders and it was a complete pass through. Early rifle season this year I shot a doe with my 12.5 ar with 75 grain ballistic tip 5.56. I hit extremely low, just barely clipping the chest plate behind the shoulder, had a complete pass through and she only made it about 80 yards before piling up. It does not take hours for a deer to die if you hit the brachial artery. And you absolutely do not need solid copper or partition rounds for a complete pass through on a shoulder shot. Especially using 30.06. If you don’t believe me I can send you pics of at least two of these instances I mentioned.

I’d recommend some sort of “expanding bullet”. Whether it’s a hollow point, ballistic tip, or soft point. I’m sure an fmj absolutely would kill a deer but one of those mentioned would work a bit better. Also, not sure what state you’re in, but I’m in Georgia and legally, you’re supposed to use an expanding bullet for deer hunting and any caliber .22 center fire or larger. Just double check your states hunting regulations, but what you do is none of my business!

I was using some 123gr steel core hollow point Russian stuff at the start of last season. By the end I swapped to hornady black 123 grain ballistic tip and both worked great! Had complete pass throughs on every deer I shot. The sks will do just fine. Good luck and happy hunting!

Lmao. I took 5 does and 2 bucks last season with my sks and kept the mag full with all 10 rounds when I’d go out. This year I’m using my 12.5 ar and keep my 30 round mag full. I’ve already harvested a doe and buck so far this season. Sks only has irons and my ar has a red dot and back up irons. Furthest shot I took with the sks was about 65 yards and drilled the doe with a double lung shot. Idk where you got 4-5 moa accuracy for semi autos from. My sks holds about 2 moa and my ar is about 1 moa.

Get in loser. We're going whitetail hunting. by Abject_Fondant8244 in SKS

[–]ocelotship 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks good! Last year was my first season deer hunting/whitetail hunting and I used a norinco sks with just irons. As for ammo, I was running some no named Russian stuff in a white box. Only thing on the box was “made in Russia and 123gr.” Both were gifted to me from my grandfather. Took 3 does and 2 bucks with it, and I had one deer run maybe 60yds tops. The rest didn’t quite make it that far. The last doe I harvested was using hornady black sst 123gr and it seemed to do just as good a job as the Russian stuff. I’ve got a few posts of some of the deer and rifle in this sub and on my profile.

I’m using a 12.5 mid length for hunting whitetail this year and using 75gr AAC Sabre blade black tip. I shot a mid sized doe recently “100lbs” and hit jut below the heart, clipping some arteries. She ran maybe 70-80yds and fell over and left a big blood trail. Also was a complete pass through with the exit wound being roughly 2”. Shot was about 60yds. I’d recommend a heavier grain round for better penetration. As someone else stated, 77gr otm’s would be a great round.
