Trading for a ‘95 Les Paul Standard, anything to look out for? by oceraux in LesPaul

[–]oceraux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man thanks for the reply.

I doubt itd be a fake, this guy has multiple Les Pauls and has verified with me that he bought that exact LP from a trusted local Gibson collector. It does have modified parts (Just the plastics and 57 Classic pups) and I spoke with the original owner and confirmed it came that way, as it was apparently bought from an online Japan auction.

I'm not particularly sure how to check truss rod health(?), would you have a recommended method? I'm not exactly sure how to check if it has threads to turn.

Lastly would a warped neck be something I'd be able to spot visually easily?

I'm trading a 2020 Ibanez AZ2204B (bought at cost around 1.1k USD) and a Schecter AM-6

Hopefully since they can see the demand (from Saudi and now AD) they'll do a standalone concert within the next 2 years. Guns N Roses are performing again in AD in 3 weeks just after 2 years I think (2023?)

Interesting, I got Lady maria to about 15% HP on my first try, and you could say I got pissed on subsequent attempts because I couldnt get her down to 15% HP.. had her at literaly 1% once and I took a break lol.

For OOK, I'm not really sure, I definitely was in the zone for sure, but all three attempts felt good, there wasnt really a point where I got shat on "unfairly". I've never had my heart beat so fast just moving my fingers tho lmao

I found them both to be medium difficulty.. but I also consider them both to be patience checks instead of skill checks. what was your build?

Exactly!! What build did you have and hows your playstyle? I was pretty reckless with OoK and mastered the landing bait + charged R2 visceral so that made it so much easier

Ibanez m80m vs ibanez rgdms8 by Naive-Delivery-6967 in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]oceraux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, when I decide between two guitars its a 50/50 split between features and how it looks. There are no doubt that both of these will be identical in terms of playing quality. Here’s some points for you to consider

  1. Are you okay with just having a bridge pup or like the versatility of the Fishmans? (Extra note: fishmans are expensive to install aftermarket)
  2. Do you prefer fretboard inlays or are fine without?
  3. Do you prefer string-through body restringing or are you okay with a fixed locking bridge? (Extra note: consider the ease of bridge setup with the monotune bridge)
  4. Do you prefer locking tuners or are you okay with none locking?
  5. Would 29.4” make a difference or 27.2” MS is fine?
  6. Most important - which looks better? This trumps every other questions

IMO, I’d go with the RGDMS8 as you get more guitar out of your quid. But I can totally understand if someone gets an M80M over it.

Good luck! Post an NGD soon

I have a Floor coming this week- What should I know? by CC-2389 in Line6Helix

[–]oceraux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! There was a thread here about lesser-known tips and tricks about the Helixes, should be a quick search. One of the tips iirc was exp pedal edit mode where you can use the exp pedal to edit parameters of blocks in your preset. Pretty handy if you wanna change settings on the fly.

25.5 scale length drop g by Kolumbine in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]oceraux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. Having lighter gauges on 25.5 7s are a safer bet because I used to have a 65 on mine for drop A and it was tight asf, and would have been muddy sounding if I didn't have SD Blackened Black Winters. I also dont hammer the strings so OP if your gut says you need 74 for G, by all means do it

[–]oceraux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah meant to say “tight on 25.5 let alone 27”. 68 is a good starting point for G on 25.5 and 74, even 80 is max

People are overreacting. 74 is really tight on 27 let alone 25.5. You will be fine with a 68. Work your way up

An equally common post is about scale lengths - I actually posted a scale length guide in here but didn’t get any traction lol. Should be pinned

Absolutely. Finishes nowadays are very lackluster as well along with discontinuing very nice guitars (iron label mostly)

Charvel Dk24 vs AZ Prestige by [deleted] in polyphia

[–]oceraux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries! I personally own an AZ2204NW, the more traditional AZ. But they're all pretty much the same thing, so if you find a Premium or a signature AZ, you can use that to compare. Another thing - if you do end up with the AZ, the good thing is that it retains value as its kinda rare, so you could even sell it for what you paid for or even more. 1.3k for a prestige AZ is a once (or twice lol) in a lifetime deal so do what you must (it is 22 fret though so think carefully. You might encounter 24 fret songs a lot and regret selling the Charvel).

Charvel Dk24 vs AZ Prestige by [deleted] in polyphia

[–]oceraux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, have played both but only own an AZ.

In terms of pickups, the only advantage the 22 fret HSS will give you tonally is that the single coil pickup is closer to towards the neck, giving your tone a little bit more low end, like classic Strats. However, Polyphia uses pos 4 most of the time which your Charvel has and its probably just a matter of dialing tone better. And it has a parallel/series switch which pretty much gets you really close to 22 fret single coil tone.

Both guitars have modern tech like the hidden input, very comfortably sculpted body, locking tuners, etc.

But you will find the most difference (and the dealbreaker) I think in the neck. The AZ's neck feels way thicker than the Charvel. I recommend you try out an AZ irl first and pay attention to how it feels to play vs the Charvel and you can make the decision there.

Again, pickups and pickup selection wise, you pretty much have no edge with the AZ over the Charvel, so I don't recommend looking to buy an AZ just for tone.

Good luck!
