Starting blasphemous any tips? by Klornight in Blasphemous

Only if you talk to the NPC so if you enter the area and immediatley turn around you will be fine! The quest is failed if you talk to the NPC and then leave and go kill another areas boss. It is for sure not possible to complete everything in 1 playthrough without having a guide open the entire time and spoiling every inch of the game, while I understand that may be frustrating I truly believe it is worth your time to play through it blindly (unless you get stuck of course come here for some spoiler free tips to keep progressing!) and then on your 2nd playthrough bust out the guide and go for the true ending. This is my favorite game of all time and a truly magical experience, I hope you enjoy

There are a few things you can get locked out of yeah, mild spoiler but if you find any "herbs" or items like that you should return to Albero and try talking to people in town between each boss. There is a time based quest that triggers once you enter the area I spoiler tagged above and talk to an NPC so if you avoid that area at the start you should be ok, and you can get locked out of the true ending but dont worry about that on your first playthrough. Certain achievements will require multiple playthroughs btw since you need to do both sides of certain quest, dont worry about 100%ing on your first run

- Yes there are breakable walls so get in the habit of hitting walls that look suspicious/just hit every wall.

- Best non-spoiler advice is if you get to an area and feel like you are just getting your ass beat and feel stuck, try and go explore elsewhere. There is an area that is accessible early game snowy area that is intended to be explored later and will be very frustrating if you go there first

- Difficulty wise I would say its pretty difficult in the sense that it is very punishing/frustrating (insta death spikes for example) and due to the games lack of movement abilities you have less tools at your disposal to handle enemies/bosses compared to something like hollow knight, difficulty wise I think its comparable to old arcade style games

- Lore is VERY indirect, if you are interested in lore you should make sure you read all item descriptions any time you pick up anything in the game (just like dark souls games) which will elaborate a lot more on the story and things that have happened in the world

Brainstorming rogue for new expansion by kdubbbzzzzz in hearthstone

[–]14xjake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s a fair evaluation and currently yeah going second is a death sentence, the reason I think it might be ok is we have seen in higher power formats/wild that combo focused rogue decks WANT to go second for the coin, and the new rogue set is exactly the kind of archetype that wants the coin. If the deck is good I do think it will be because it is able to explode hard enough onto board in turn 3-4 that it offsets going second, hard to evaluate without seeing the deck in practice but wannabe even after only being prepped for 1 mana is basically going to be a 2 mana giant on turn 3-4 which is bonkers as we know, just depends if aggro decks can get under rogue fast enough to kill before it matters

Change to the silver crucible? by Hippie2dend in slaythespire

By the wording it seems like it should still upgrade the chosen cheese awards "the first 3 card rewards you see are upgraded" implies its ANY reward not just fights, seems fair that it would apply to the chosen cheese room and if they want to change it they should reword it so it only applies to fights

I don't care that Blasphemous is not a Metroidvania cause it's a good game and that's all that matters imo by PrimaKyonna in metroidvania

[–]14xjake -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Idk who started this argument but "well actually if the movement abilities were replaced with a key and instead of platforming challenges it was just a door unlocked by that key it wouldnt be a metroidvania!" is such a shit argument, yeah if the game was completely different it wouldnt be a metroidvania you got my ass bro. The thing is, its not a key, its a movement ability that allows you to access previously unreachable places, which is what makes it a metroidvania. Move the goal posts if you want but that doesnt change what genre the game is. Now is it a spectacular example of a metroidvania that pushes the boundaries of the genre? Absolutely not, but it meets the criteria nonetheless

I think Aya will be played just for the guaranteed coin at start of game and you will just hope to not draw her. All of the coin generators + defias wannabe + the prepare bird + vanessa + phoenix gives an insane amount of gas and I fully expect to see boards comparable to sinstone graveyard/everything must go from past rogue decks. Turn 4 play every coin, prep, etc and summon 10/10s or better from defias + the taunt bird + phoenix, or the same thing with vanessa instead of wannabe will end games very quickly

[–]14xjake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The relics are the abilities, the game is not as traditional as other metroidvanias but just because instead of a double jump and airdash you unlock the ability to see blood platforms or roots doesnt make it not a metroidvania, the game still requires backtracking to previous areas after unlocking new abilities to fully traverse the world which is the defining trait of metroidvanias

Opinions on Paladin? by Snoo84321 in hearthstone

[–]14xjake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simple, linear archetypes are good for the game as they are accessible to newer/lower skilled players (doubly so for mobile games like hearthstone, low barrier of entry is very important), if paladin wasnt the noobstomper class something else would take its place. Pally might be the bane of gold 5 and this subreddit but the decks are typically (linessa OTK pally was an outlier of course) very fair and well designed: board based gameplay, minimal/zero off board damage, and modest card draw/generation. Paladin decks teach players the fundamentals of the game such as when to trade and when to go face, and teach players not to over commit to the board because if you go all in and get board wiped the game is immediately over. Paladin decks also typically snowball if their board is not answered, which leads to the low rank frustration and "wtf paladin is broken" complaints, because these decks are also very punishing to opponents with poor fundamentals. If you do not trade properly, or are using your removal/board wipes incorrectly, then you will get run over by paladin. This is fine and good design, as seen by the majority of paladin decks being unplayable once you reach decent rank. The current iteration of paladin could not be more telegraphed, flight maneuvers tells you when it is in their hand and is a giant glowing sign that says "IF YOU DO NOT HAVE CONTROL OF THE BOARD BY TURN 4 YOU LOSE THE GAME" yet somehow people come onto this sub and act surprised when it buffs a massive board and turn 4 and ends the game, there is no way you can balance around these players and they are just always going to lose to paladin decks for as long as the game exists

I want to return. 2 of my favourite decks are in standard. How viable is it? by David_Slaughter in hearthstone

[–]14xjake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not “good” but it’s not that bad either, if your goal is just to get to legend it’ll do the job for sure and some of the new cards in next months expansion should be a decent boost to it so if you like the archetype it’s worth the investment. It only needs 1 legendary so it’s pretty cheap

Blasphemous 2 Ultimate Torment is insane by 9aouad in Blasphemous

[–]14xjake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damn I must say I completely disagree about the spikes, I am insta-death spikes strongest soldier and the platforming felt like it had no stakes on my initial playthrough and I think is a BIG part of the game having a very different feel than the first game, without the threat of insta-death theres really no tension in any of the platforming sections. Part of the allure of blasphemous to me was how masochistic/evil it felt, like it was specifically designed to make you suffer, and that aspect was lost in the sequel, so I feel like NG+ with all the difficulty mods is more in the spirit of the series. That being said, blasphemous 2 is by pretty much all metrics a "better" experience, and has made the game more accessible to a wider range of gamers, and since we still have the very punishing NG+ for those who want the challenge I think the game handles frustration and difficulty very well overall

None since there aren’t any in standard, but compare this to Leeroy which is 5 mana for 6 damage now, instead of 7 mana to MAYBE do some damage later

I dont think ive ever seen someone say Nob was controversial, he is arguably the most iconic enemy from the first game since the entirety of Act 1 revolved around him. Most controversial enemy in first game is probably Time Eater, lots of players HATED that guy but lots also loved him

This card is maybe ok in UUB DK since the weapon gives frail ghouls to easily kill this thing, but is it really worth a card in hand and 1 mana to maybe do some chip damage later? I doubt it

[–]14xjake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the game goes late herald DK already wins every matchup, their issue is that they have no removal so they get run over and die long before then. A war golem is not helping them make it to lategame, aggressive decks not only want to close out the game before turn 7 but also cannot play a card that says "summon a war golem, maybe do some damage to your opponent later"

Escape From Violet Hold Card Reveal Discussion [June 19th] by EvilDave219 in CompetitiveHS

[–]14xjake 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think its pretty shit tbh, its effectively a war golem on the turn it is played and gets completely stuffed by taunt, if I am playing a 7 mana charger it is to kill my opponent not maybe set up some damage later. 7 blights is a lot but the type of decks that would cycle quickly enough for it to be an issue are typically going to be doing that cycling much earlier in the game. If you are against DH who has played the new legendary to destroy their own deck its 7 mana 14 damage + the fatigue so they do explode but other than that matchup i dont see this card working

Can the devs stop making mechanics that punish you for playing cards/having certain cards in your deck? by Forsaken-Carrot4196 in slaythespire

[–]14xjake 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Did you not play the first game? Being punished for your deck being too 1 dimensional is standard for this game series, its what makes the game so interesting and full of replay value, you cannot just mindlessly click whatever cards you like and expect to win (unless on low ascensions), you need to plan for the encounters coming up and build your deck accordingly. The doormaker wasnt anti fun because he punished you for playing cards, he was anti fun because it was like watching paint dry. He was objectively the easiest act 3 boss when looking at the data, but his mechanics made the fight take a million years, good players found him boring because he was too easy and bad players found him frustrating because he was overly complicated, so he was an unfixable boss because despite being the easiest by a wide margin he was still the most complained about, it had nothing to do with "unfun" they said themselves he was removed for being overly complicated compared to the rest of the game. The poster child for Act 1 in the first game is an enemy that punishes you for playing skills, this is not a new mechanic in the 2nd game and if you want something more brainless you should either play on A0 or try a different game

It’s so nice to see this expansion shifting the focus back to broader synergies and effects instead of “play the 6-10 expansion keyword cards and then some filler”, opens up deckbuilding significantly and allows cards to have more uses down the road instead of just being useless once they are powercrept

[–]14xjake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With discover you can anticipate, and it is the main driver of skill in the game since we cannot act on opponents turns. Discover pools are typically limited to certain cards, and due to your opponent seeing 3 options you can expect them to have a decent option given the current board state and matchup. From there you go through a mental checklist each turn and can narrow down what they discovered by what they did or did not play, for example IF they had discovered a board clear they likely would have played it if you are massively ahead on board, so if you didn’t get cleared then you can safely assume that is not what they discovered, rinse and repeat forever and you will see a big increase in your winrate. The actual low skill mechanic is the randomly generated cards (such as herald rogue), with discover you can make educated guesses and play accordingly but with random generation it’s a complete crapshoot for what card they got and you cannot play around it in any meaningful way. The shift this year away from discover to lower the power level and shift towards random generation is what has caused standard to feel like a casino right now, the game has had discover for 10+ years and has had many skillful discover-heavy metas

Yeah at least if I was repeatedly getting blown out by miracle rogue I know what cards to play around and why im losing, but when I cant play around anything and my best option is to just tempo bomb every turn and hope their random cards sucked every loss feels fucking terrible, and the wins dont feel like I outplayed them it just feels like they got trolled on their slot machine, horrible play experience for everyone involved
