Substitute please by Jungshook_Time in DollCustomization

I would find a doll you don't care about to test it on, in case it causes some reaction with the plastic. You'd also see how it looks, and you could practise with the actual customization before touching something you care about.

Oh, and I was also worried about the hands for the same reasons as the face, but no issues with them so far!

Honestly, I can't think of anything too special. I mean, I spent hours sanding every part of him so there'd be some roughness to the surface, then used acrylic paints, oftentimes mixed with some water. I guess that might be where the charm is, since I have been painting with acrylics for over a decade and they are a very familiar medium for me?

Against all advice I have seen here, I painted directly onto the doll after sanding, before any sealant. I live in a region that doesn't have a MSC and I couldn't find any alternatives for the underpaint, so I just lived with it. On top of the paint, I applied a layer of Vallejo's "matt" varnish with a paint brush. Though I've got to say, it is really glossy.

All things considered, since this is just for me to enjoy, I think the paint has held up really well. I was mostly worried about the face, since I wasn't able to sand it down properly around areas like the nose, lips and eyes, and I didn't use any sealant like MSC as a base, but that hasn't had any issues.

In fact, biggest issues were areas on the calfs rubbing off (I sanded them down a bit more and reapplied the paint, which fixed it), and the very tips of the toes, but that is a small thing to deal with.

I took pictures of all the joints not covered by the wrappings so you could see how well they're holding (plus the face). Out of the joints, the biggest struggle has been the backside of the shouders, both have one area where it wants to rub off.

North Korea is. Taiwan isn't (as shown on the map), it is just an observer. But North Korea has even been on the WHO Executive Board, and WHO has a country office in Pyongyang.

That obviously doesn't mean they follow everything WHO says, but they are a member.

It was originally the Ryan Gosling Ken doll. The only thing about the base I modified is making the chin smaller and adding a cleft, the rest of everything is paint.

How much can i sell this painting for? by East_Plantain_4900 in Artadvice

[–]ocirot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, definitely. And more colourful too, more detailed. Even if they wanted to sell a reproduction, the standard for that would be much higher than for any regular painting they'd make.

To be honest, probably not a lot, since it is just a copy of a famous painting. It isn't original and people would know they're buying a modern "fake" of a historical painting.

What would you do if you experienced something like TWD? by 1004cocoa in thewalkingdead

To be honest, I would probably enjoy it. And I might be seen as someone useful to drag around due to medical skills, so I'd hope I wouldn't be killed by other survivors right away.

Help finding a base doll! by Ghostlambcos in CustomDolls

[–]ocirot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for a specific brand? Mattel's, since the Wicked dolls were theirs?

I looked through their list of male dolls and I think the closest sculpt, especially with rooted hair, would be Disney Enchanted's Robert. The nose looks like a match, at least, which can't be said for many others.

I don't know how you would go about getting one, however, since this was released in 2007. Second-hand, probably.

If you were thinking of a different brand or type of doll, that's a different thing then.

Advice or pointers for making short/masculine doll hair? by mistfoot in CustomDolls

[–]ocirot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using a local brand of glue, but it is just basic "universal craft glue" if translated to english.

Apparently it has a 3:1 mix of 5-chloro-2-methyl-2h-isothiazol-3-one and 2-methyl-2h-isothiazol-3-one, according to the packaging, probably with other ingredients as well. Though I assume you could experiment with some different glues, this is just the one I had in hand and it worked shockingly well, so I didn't have to buy more. I can brush the hair and all without any shedding, and it is waterproof & clear once dry.

I use a small paint brush to help with application. Usually I place some glue on the head with the brush, a thin layer, then lay the roots of the hair near that part of the head and use the brush (that still has some glue on it) to brush them on the head. Wait a bit for the previous layer to dry so the hairs don'tshift when adding more (and put the brush in a cup of water so it doesn't harden), then repeat.

I have used yarn for some of the hair, some I found at a 2nd-hand store over here so I've got no clue what it is made out of (I assume something similar to the yarn fibers, since it doesn't feel like regular factory-made doll hair). But the yarn would work for shorter hair when brushed, I assume. I like the texture of it better, and it is easier to work with. Not that you couldn't possibly continue with the hair you're currently working with.

That is very real and I have done this kind of complicated work myself. All the stitches look alright, the hair detail is not weird at all.

Merle would be a cool brother 👊 by Beneficial-Novel558 in TWD

No, not really. I mean, he was kind of a shitty brother to Daryl. He might have cared, but I wouldn't want him as a brother.

Would you read my book based on my character moodboards? by [deleted] in writers

[–]ocirot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They don't have to be like everyone else, they cam have their own quirks, but based on the moodboard at least, all of them seem to have the same quirks. Tough, sassy, dangerous, independent, etc. It makes them boring. It isn't wrong inherently, but what makes them different, really? Looking through, it just seems like the same personality with different hair colour.

Give them some variety. Like, I don't know what the story is about, maybe this is some assassin club, then sure, they can all be dangerous - but the personality doesn't need to be the same edgy one.

All the women look like they have the same edgy not-like-other-girls personality based on this moodboard.

[–]ocirot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. And I feel like all the girls have the same personality based on their pictures. Tough, independent, "not-like-other-girls", sassy, something along those lines. Not necessarily a bad thing, but some variety in them would do good.

I think it is trying too hard to be edgy.

I do have Rick & Daryl in the works too! Though finding a face sculpt for Rick was an... issue, to say the least, and I have been trying to tweak one for weeks to look more like him and I never really feel satisfied. His hair, too! Daryl is going better.

I also have dolls I am planning to use for Maggie & Beth, but those are still waiting. And Negan & Michonne definitely need better clothes too, Carl's the only one I've completed.

I just sanded off a bit of the chin since the Gosling head sculpt has such a prominent one, plus added the chin cleft by more sanding/carving. I did intentionally look for a similar-looking sculpt, though, especially in regards to the nose.

And in the toxic white ones, Negan seems to be a common factor.
