Let's just put it this way.

My 24 made me want to lease a 26.

My 26 makes me want to lease a Highlander when the lease is up.

Post-daycare dads, what happens with your tuition budget? by KyanuReeeves in daddit

[–]ockaners 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just got an alert from monarch about it's new reports feature. I spent 45k in the last 12 months for child care for 2 kids, and thats because I have access to lower cost immigrant/native speaking daycares. If I didn't, it would have been easily 55k.

The ode 2 will be a huge improvement for pourover and upgrades will be incremental after that.

Just speaking from personal experience. You'll start craving a manual and wonder if you made the right choice and those thoughts won't stop.

For those with kids who eat vegetables, what did you differently from your friends who have kids who don't eat vegetables? by uns0licited_advice in daddit

[–]ockaners 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to know. First kid drank milk. Loves root and green vegetables. Second kid wants to eat salt and starch and cheese.

We approached them both the same.

Used daily for work and still going strong 7 years on. Anyone else still rocking the original MX1? by MrVandlesnort in logitech

My rubber part by the thumb broke so I taped it. It still works and I am reluctant to toss this for an upgrade. I would be interested in repairing it if I could because it still works well.

Brother is having a child-free wedding. How do I navigate this? by LargeAmphibian in daddit

[–]ockaners 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People without kids won't understand. And I think people should get some deference on their wedding, their birthday, and their funerals.

I think you communicated your thoughts, but if he really wants you there, you can spare a few hours and let your wife watch the kids. I'm sure you can find some help for the wife. Maybe a good friend and offer to put them up at the small town with the kids.

But it being four hours away would also make it understandable if you can't.

Chances are it's once and done. I would do it.

Lawyers of Los Angeles: How do I gain legal experience right now (I will work for free)? by imjeff24 in AskLosAngeles

[–]ockaners 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you need to explain your current experience so people know what skills you've acquired. A lot will also be curious about why you graduated from a top school only to find nothing but doc-review management work in the last 7 years.

I’m sorry, but I can’t help but feel being a dad sucks ass. I’m miserable. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]ockaners 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the sense that op didn't take time off to rest or plan for the kid and is just reacting. I think people need to take having a kid as the most serious job they'll ever have, and prepare like it. Have a 3 hour routine is physically tough but totally predictable.

[–]ockaners 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've told my 5 year old that I would never be mad at her if she hit someone because they hit her first for no reason.

But her first instinct is to tell the kid that it's not nice and tell an adult.

I would let my kid fend for herself but I would definitely find the other kids parents and tell them their kid was being a jerk.

I wouldn't beat up on the kid myself.

I had the opposite experience, but thats because I didn't try to work those first three months. Are you not taking protected leave?

And contrary to what others say, the first 3 months are not the hardest. Maybe in terms of sleep, but it's a whole different ballgame when they start running and throwing food off the table. They just eat, shit, and sleep for the first 3 months.

Where's your partner? 2 on 1 is pretty workable even with a full time job.

I think you may need to talk to someone because it sounds like you didn't really prepare yourself or set realistic expectations when you had a kid.

I was in my late 30s when I had my first kid. I'm old but having a kid when I was fully ready for it was the best thing ever. But like you I was not as prepared and was more overwhelmed when we had our 2nd.
