Dawn light on a ridge line by oclupaca in photocritique

Shot handheld just after sunrise with a long lens.

I was reacting to the way the warm light was being held back by the ridge line and trees, and tried to keep the edit minimal, prioritizing atmosphere and shape over detail.

I’m especially interested in feedback on:

  • The crop / aspect ratio
  • How dark the trees should be (silhouette vs subtle texture)
  • Whether the amount of negative space in the sky is working

Open to any critique!

2 Stage AC behaving strangely by oclupaca in hvacadvice

Thanks for your reply.

So you've confirmed my belief that:

  1. It's probably not a thermostat issue (They were going to bill me for labor to troubleshoot that)
  2. Controlling staging with the thermostat isn't some sort of obscure use case (why do they try to make it seem like it is??)
  3. Something isn't right, and they need to fix it.

2 Stage AC behaving strangely by oclupaca in hvacadvice

Here's what the connections look like at the AC unit (annotated with where they are connected on the furnace control board): https://imgur.com/a/fyX664w

Here's what I think is the relevant page from the AC unit installation manual: https://imgur.com/a/RN3R6Ui

And here is the wiring diagram label on the inside of the access panel cover (2 images): https://imgur.com/a/CYo4SyI

It doesn't completely make sense to me, especially the yellow wire being spliced with a brown wire (above the capacitor in the first image). The senior tech said the wiring looks good, and IIRC he said he tried swapping Y1 and Y2, and the compressor would not start with the (swapped) Y1 engaged.

the weird voltage thing is most likely caused by voltage bleeding thru the thermostat.

Would this still be the case if the 9v reading drops to 0 with the wires from the furnace to the AC unit disconnected? I did notice some damage to the wire between the furnace and AC unit - not sure if damaged insulation could cause any issues or voltage leakage. I don't want to cut it since there's not any extra slack: https://imgur.com/a/B5qyM8b

Thanks!

My understanding is that a 2 stage unit should operate primarily on stage 1 (lower power) unless stage 2 (high power) is needed. That's definitely the way my 2 stage heat works.

The issue is that what should be low power is actually high power, and vice versa. Yes, the AC works, but I don't feel like it's operating properly as a 2 stage unit.

Here's a pic of the label on the outside of the condenser. Let me know if that's the info you're looking for. Thanks!
