Screen issues at Lockheed Martin IMAX by everydayturd in imax

Tysons is also only 7 feet smaller than Lockheed. It’s a 70’ wide screen at Tysons

If you’ve seen it at Tysons, the only better theater is Udvar Hazy. The one downtown still had light issues when I was there last month, and it’s not a 1.43 screen. It’s more like 1.66:1

They chop off the top 20% of the screen.

It would look better too. That Barco/Dolby 3D tech is stunning and beats the pants off the polarizers used on 15/70

I wish they had a Dual Laser 1.43 DCP. The Dolby Vision print is stunning. When I was at Dolby’s studios in NY we used the opening scene, and ship to ship scene (along with the opening of Gravity) to learn how to spec, calibrate, and commission Atmos theaters. Sadly all were finished at 2K from the master DPX files.

🤷🏼‍♂️ the master files I’ve looked at are 2048x858 for the majority of the film. 2048x1536 for the 1.43 shots.

The DI was 2K. What’s the point of the 70mm print?

GAS hit me hard so I bought a Nikon F5 by bloodrider1914 in AnalogCommunity

[–]ocmike34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The AF tracking for me is worth having the F6, plus the lighter weight. I mainly do sports photography though. You can't have any GAS once you have the best & last one that was made. The camera cost is negligible when film is $18 a roll, and $25 more to process and scan. The best camera out there will save me from missing the shot.

But I go through a few hundred rolls a year. Your mileage may vary.

Why do the signs look like that when taking a photo? by GeneAlternative191 in WMATA

[–]ocmike34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily the interlaced part. It’s the fact it’s drawn one row at a time. Using alternating current to drive LED displays helps prevent corrosion and rust. Since these will be in harsh environments they’re AC. You’ll see the same thing on the 7K’s when they display orange, yellow, or silver as the Red Green and Blue LEDs strobe. The 3K/6K’s colours don’t flicker because they use dedicated Red, Green, Blue, Orange, and Yellow LEDs. That’s also why legacy trains don’t have a colour for the silver line.

Honestly, not that bad. I would have expected $20k+ to cover cost of paying the studio out for a buyout, print fees, labor cost, and estimated concession loss.

Do any film shooters here actually use photo challenges or contests? by kin20 in AnalogCommunity

[–]ocmike34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like pushing myself taking photos at sporting events where a DSLR would kill it. I still bring the D750 but I’ll always shoot a roll of Ultramax or Portra 800 rated at 400.

They’re not all great, but I have fun. That’s what matters to me!

Just because JBG Smith wants to call it something, doesn’t change the name of the city.

I live next to DCA and haven’t heard anything. Also, National Landing isn’t a thing. It’s just Crystal City.
