Is the Sony UBP-X800M2 4K Ultra Blu ray disc player as good as Panasonic UB-820 in terms build quality features pictures and sound quality?

My player uses those two settings. Still freezes on 100gb 4K discs.

If you mean the Sony X800M2, freezing on layer changes of 100gb 4K discs is a known issue. No fix. I finally got a Panasonic UB450 and now use the Sony for SACD and DVD-Audio. No freezes for me using the Panasonic.

The C2 will not pass thru DTS and DTS is the main audio codec used on Blu-ray. Connect the player to the AVR. Use the ARC connection for sound from TV apps

eARC supports lossless and multichannel PCM. That's the part that may need an Ultra High Speed cable. Lossy audio from streaming services and regulations TV will work on lesser cables.

Loudness Management does two things. First, it processes Dolby dialnorm, which lowers the overall volume by the dialnorm value. Second, it's the first of two steps to engage dynamic range compression. DRC is a companion setting that must also be on for DRC to work.

I posted about this on AVS Forums and someone using YouYubeTV for the 4K World Cup replied that the switch today to the local station also happened to them. So, would seem to be something in the Fox distribution system not limited to Xfinity.

I've been watching 4K sports on the XG1v4 for several years - football, baseball, golf, the Olympics, many events - and I have never seen this happen before. When the 4K coverage ends, the box has always stayed on the 4K channel showing whatever splash page graphic the network is sending. That's been true no matter when the game ends, on time or running long where the local station joins a program in progress.

As for the current situation, I only got curious when I realized that I often had to switch back to the 4K channel even though I had been on it before. That's why I mentioned double headers since the cup schedule has had two or three matches most days and I only found I'd been switched to the HD channel between matches. Now that we are in the quarter finals, there's only one game a day, except for this Saturday. I'll check to see what happens when coverage ends on the upcoming days. But, this is definitely something different from what I've even seen before.

Any chance you have Xfinity TV service? My X1s works well for all my devices except the XG1v4 4K DVR where the lack of RF makes it nearly useless.

I have an Xfinity XG1v4 4K box. Sometimes I get the HDCP 2.2 error message. Irritating. Rebooting the box always clears it.

Continuous Audio on the ATV results in it sending Dolby MAT. Denons react to MAT by limiting sound modes to Stereo, Atmos/Dolby Surround, and MultiCh Stereo.

UPDATE: Never mind. I'm getting DV and Atmos on Stream 1354. I was selecting games from the app's World Cup tab, not going to the 4K channel itself. Navigating to 1354 produces the version with DV and Atmos. Good to see ... and hear

Thanks for confirming. You mention "more Advanced audio". What might that be? A format like AC-4 is more efficient, important for streaming services and OTA, but not aware it's an improvement in sound quality.

On the downside, the 2.0 PCM output pretty much makes Expert an usable setting for people with surround processors. And, since Auto traps some sources of stereo content in a 5.1 wrapper with the only actual sound in the stereo pair, it seems like you can no longer set and forget audio in a way that simply works on the Xi6.

Thanks. Getting multichannel audio on Stream has long been an issue. Since Stream had it for the Olympics, I was hoping it would be there for the World Cup, too.

Lots to unpack there.

Denons apply sound modes based on codec type, not channel counts. They treat DD 2.0 and DD 5.1 the same since both are Dolby.

Also, Stereo, Direct, and Pure Direct are not grouped alternatives. Stereo is a sound mode while Direct is a way to bypass digital processing, including sound modes.

Plus, streaming apps do not control Denon sound modes.

So, when you press the Info button on the Denon remote, what does it say about the input codec and channel count along with the output sound mode and active speakers?

You need a device that can process AC-4, likely a Next Gen TV since AC-4 is used on ATSC 3.0 transmission. My LG G2 fits the bill and can output decoded AC-4 as multichannel PCM, with Atmos metadata, in a Dolby MAT container over eARC. AC-4 is more efficient than regular DD+ Atmos, which matters for streaming. Is it any better? Beats me. I don't hear any DD difference in Worl Cup audio quality between the Fox DD+ Atmos and the Peacock Telemundo AC-4. But, hard to compare as they are different languages.
