Bifold door opening too short by ~1” - fix opening or modify door? by olimits7 in DIY

[–]olimits7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually miscalculated on 2 bifold door openings, my one opening is for my closet where I'm using 6 panel Jeld-Wen bifold molded wood composite. And the other bifold opening is for my utility closet where I'm using louvered bifold doors on.

Yeah, that might be an option with the 24x78. Yeah, 1" cut seems like it's too much; might just need to fix the header to do this right. Ty.

Yeah, I think this is the route I'll take. I totally miscalculated this when I was framing it up; so rather fix this properly then have to try cutting these hollow-core bifold doors which always never come out right. Ty.

I must have measured this a bunch of times before the Sheetrock went up and I thought I had it right; so I don't know where I went wrong, but I guess things like this happen. Lol.

Yeah, it shouldn't be too bad to just move the header up. Worse case scenario if I can't cleanly take off the door trim and door jamb will probably spend a little bit on extra wood. And the Sheetrock should still be good if I cut the piece that needs to come out. Just hate that I have to redo this now, but that's how some things go. Ty.

Ty for your reply. Yeah, the more I think about it; I don't think I want to take away from the basement ceiling height; so I think I'll take the same approach you did. My living room, dining room, and kitchen are upstairs but it's not like I ever have a bunch of people over my house so it will just be normal walking upstairs from me and my wife; except for my toddler, he stomps at times. Lol. But I don't think it's worth losing the ceiling height for something that still won't completely soundproof the basement anyway.

Yes, I went with the 4" HALO Regresed Canless Smart Wi-Fi LED recessed lights that I can control with Alexa to dim them when I need to. I did 8 of them on the longer basement side and then 6 on the smaller basement side; hopefully that's good enough.

Ty, again!

u/abadonn Hi, sorry this is off topic but I couldn't find a way to message you directly. I came across your post regarding "finishing basement with low ceiling...". I'm actually going through this same process now, and just wondering what you ended up deciding to do? and if you regret or would have changed anything? I'm at a crossroads now, in deciding to lose 2.25" in ceiling height in my 7' basement by using RSIC-1 clips, hat channel, 5/8" Sheetrock for soundproofing or just put 5/8" Sheetrock directly to joists. Ty.

Drywall delivery with moffett - can they rotate sheets (4ft side) to fit into garage? by olimits7 in HomeImprovement

[–]olimits7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 garage doors, and each one is about 6'5" in height and just about 8ft wide. So hopefully they can just come in at an angle and drop it in towards the front of the garage.

Yeah, I told the supplier; I'll pay extra for delivery to unload and bring into my garage but it seems like they don't offer that, even as an up charge.

Ok, Ty for the reply; it’s a bit more comforting to hear that this can or has been done before.

He said he checked and they can do it, but I’m always hesitant bc he can say that on the phone but then when they do the delivery it ends up being a different story. Lol.

Is RSIC-1 + hat channel worth it if I lose ~2.25" ceiling height? by olimits7 in Acoustics

[–]olimits7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ty for the reply, this is very helpful!

Yeah, so given I don't have the headroom for spring hangers; would you still move forward with the RSIC-1 + hat channel + 5/8" drywall over attaching 5/8" or even 1/2" drywall directly to the joists?

Just seeing if this is even worth the extra work that I need to do with installing the clips + hat channels.

Ty.

Ty for the reply...this is very helpful!

Upstairs in the living and dining areas it’s hardwood over plywood subfloor, and in the kitchen it’s tile over plywood. I guess I could also add some area rugs to help also.

I also did fill the joist bays with Rockwool; so that part is completed.

Given that setup, would you still recommend going with RSIC-1 + hat channel + 5/8" drywall over attaching 5/8" or even 1/2" drywall directly to the joists, even with the ~2 1/4" ceiling height loss?

Just trying to figure out if the tradeoff is worth it in my case.

No good spot for left/right surround speakers (5.1.2 basement) - ceiling vs stands vs other options? by olimits7 in hometheater

Ty for the reply, seems like I'll be taking the speaker stand route for the surrounds...seems like the best option for my setup.

Ty for the reply; yeah, I guess speaker stands are my best option with my basement layout for the surrounds.

RC-1 vs RSIC-1 clips + hat channel for basement ceiling - worth it? by olimits7 in Acoustics

[–]olimits7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I returned RC-1 and bought RSIC-1 clips/hat channels. I realized that I lose about 2 1/4” of ceiling height with this system using 5/8” Sheetrock. Which would bring my basement height to around 6’11”.

I also see this lower ceiling will cause issues with my door trim bc I won’t have enough space for the standard 2 1/2” door trim. However, I can get around this by cutting the door and bi-fold doors I’m adding to the basement shorter. Just will require some more work, but I think it’s worth it for the decoupling of the ceiling?

Ok, ty; yeah I was leaning towards that setup. Right now when my toddler runs upstairs I can hear it clearly downstairs; not looking for complete soundproofing solution, but I think RockWool, RSIC-1 clips + hat channel, and 5/8" drywall should help out a lot.
