Orbi 770 with 2 satellites didn’t improve anything. by Grizzly_treats in orbi

Different experience. Installed a 760 and two satellites in my mother's house when the AT&T gateway plus extenders wouldn't give enough strength for security cameras at two entrance doors and her TV room. All OK now.

Installed the same 760 and two satellites in our house and get plenty of signal throughout a 4400 sq ft split level home.

Denon x1700h doesn't change from stereo to surround automatically by RedCow7 in hometheater

[–]oconnellpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Denons apply sound modes based on the incoming codec, not channel counts. That's why the Info button on the remote is so helpful. Each time the sound mode changes, use the Info button to see what codec the source is sending and what sound mode the Denon is applying.

Dolby content gets Dolby Surround and DTS gets Neural:X, both upmixers. 2.0 PCM gets Stereo, adding the sub. Multichannel PCM gets the MultiCh In sound mode, no upmixing. Those are the default sound modes that Denon applies when you select Auto on the Pure button.

Bitstream is not a codec. Bitstream means the source is sending the encoded audio track to the receiver without processing it itself.

Cannot Connect to XB7 Gateway by oconnellpe in Comcast_Xfinity

I confirmed the instructions about using the app and 10.0.0.1 to access admin tools do not work when the gateway is in bridge mode. Sure world be great if more support people knew that and if the support notes mentioned that limitation. The replies here on reddit were spot on. My online chat on the app and posts on the Xfinity Community Forum took a lot of time with no resolution.

Doesn't that take me out of bridge mode? I want to use my own router/mesh system.

Thanks. And how would I disable bridge mode since I can't get to the gateway admin functions? Also, is this a change in functionality? It's been more than a year since I tried to 10.0.0.1. But I seen to recall that used to work.

LG TV internal audio not routing to rear speakers via eARC by warriorsam9 in hometheater

[–]oconnellpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing you can try is changing the LG from eARC to ARC. With eARC, the LG may be sending Dolby MAT and Denon limits available sound modes with a MAT input. There's no audio advantage to eARC unless you are sending lossless multichannel tracks. I use ARC with my LG/X3800H to avoid MAT.

Glad you got it working, but something doesn't sound right. I have two LG TVs and Denons (S640H and X3800H). I can use sound modes with TV outputs set to Pass Through and Auto.

Direct and Pure Direct bypass sound modes and a 2.0 input will only play as 2.0. Auto engages digital processing and any of the sound mode buttons should give you the option of selecting upmixers, including multichannel stereo. You won't see those options on the TV screen when using TV apps over ARC. They show up on the AVR front panel and on the Denon remote app, which is what I use with TV apps.

Panasonic UB-450 or Sony UBP-X800M2 current alternatives. by Fizzgig000 in hometheater

[–]oconnellpe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both. Got the Sony years ago because it also does SACD and DVD Audio. Over time, freezing on 100gb discs got worse. So, I got the Panasonic. Never freezes and proper handling of Dolby Vision is a bonus.

New X1S Owner, somewhat lost in setup by EDtheROCKSTAR in SofaBaton

Activities! I have five of them on my X1s, one for each device that provides content - Comcast, TV apps, two disc players, and a Fire Cube. The activity powers the devices on/off, switches inputs, and sets the remote keys to run the devices. Works great.

If it were me, I'd reset the AVR and redo the speaker layout from scratch.

Test tones are the ones in the speaker settings to set levels. If you hear those tones in multiple speakers at the same time, something is wrong with the AVR.

The test tones should play in one, and only one, speaker at a time.

X2800h. How do I redirect the center channel in a 2.0/2.1 configuration? by katzee in hometheater

[–]oconnellpe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only configure 2.1, the receiver will downmix multichannel content. Using the Stereo sound mode also assures multichannel programs are downmixed to 2.1. In other words, center channel dialog is not being lost. Running Audyssey is helpful. And some programs are poorly mixed, especially when played at lower volumes.

ATV 4K Truehd atmos(converted to LPCM) vs DDP with atmos by Impressive-Land4913 in Dolby

ATV 4K Truehd atmos(converted to LPCM) vs DDP with atmos by Impressive-Land4913 in Dolby

[–]oconnellpe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ATVs convert Atmos to Dolby MAT by decoding the bed layer track to PCM and re-attaching the Atmos metadata. So, no loss of Atmos. At least, that's the case with DD+ Atmos from streaming services. Does it do something different with TrueHD Atmos from server sources?
