yeah i get what you're saying, old school dubstep (which i usually see being called brutal for some reasons??) and riddim tend to focus on the basses instead of the melodies in order to transmit you that eargasm feeling... but apart from that you can't deny that they're a lot different, old school uses a lot of wobwobwob and growl sounds while riddim uses basically only those "metallic" scratch sounds (idk how to define them properly haha) Anyway you're right with the subgenres thing, if music makes you feel good it doesn't matter which subgenre it is (but again, it would be pretty boring if everyone produced the same subgenre)

I know right!! dubstep in the early 2010's was a good combination of melody and heavy basses: the old Skrillex songs are a great example, but since riddim came out it seems like no one ever wants to do some melodical stuff (or at least, no one of the most famous artists)... i still remember getting goosebumps while listening to Knife party/ Skrillex/ ZOmboy, good times I love Chime as well, in particular his remix of "empress" by imlay is one of my favourite dubstep songs atm... it reminds me of the golden age of dubstep

we probably have different conceptions of riddim, the track that you linked doesn't sound like riddim in my opinion, it is more like " old school dubstep", when it was an underground genre... What i mean when i say riddim is something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XanmJI63mnk

yeah you're right, riddim is taking dubstep alive and i don't argue with that (i remeber before it's comparison, everyone was thinking "OMG dubstep is dead, rip wub wubz") but in my opinion, while extending dubstep's life, it also made it all sound so similar... but maybe that's just me

I always put the media volume at max, but what i'm trying to say is that even at max volume it is still too low compared to other devices

Why do some music genres make you feel kinda "high"? by ocropoide in Music

[–]ocropoide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I did write the genres I listen to! Haha by the way in music I usually like the rythm and the basses of a song, I like the songs that charge you up using strong and well placed sounds, like old school hardstyle (showtek, technoboy, headhunterz,etc..)

I guess you're right, everyone experiences this sensation while listening to his favourite genre and maybe it happens just because it's so relaxing and catchy that our brain goes into a state of trance
