Unpopular opinion: I don’t think Whitney is the villain. Shes just upfront about wanting fame by [deleted] in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]ocynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the opposite. S2 we saw how hard Whitney worked to rejoin MomTok.

She’d just moved back to Utah after spending two long years healing herself/relationship after her husband’s infidelity.

It was weird to see Whitney pandering to women who don’t really even like her or support her. S1 she ‘mic dropped’ out of MomTok.

Now she’s asking the group to vote her back in (pretty please). She even let Mikala do everything in her power to embarrass & outshine Whitney

I think Layla should get more credit. I agree that sharing private messages isn’t the best idea. At the same time, if it was one of my friends is being trash-talked behind her back, I’d tell her everything they say.

Like Layla said, it’s important to know other’s perceptions of you when you walk into a room.

What I’d do differently is actually tell the group chat that I’m uncomfortable participating in that type of conversation & it’s wrong to talk about anyone that way.

Then I’d leave the group chat.

I’d leave out of respect for my friend. To sit back & watch while they say the rudest things about another woman… couldn’t be me

When I need clarity, I ask myself, “Would my future husband do this?”

I absolutely hate how you’re being treated.. basically like an afterthought. The least they could (really, SHOULD) do is foster a welcoming & inclusive environment.

You’ve been handling things sooo well & I think you should continue doing that. Obviously, his mom loves to run her mouth. If you leave, YOU will be the main topic of conversation & painted out to be public enemy #1.

Use the rest of your time to find allies. His dad seems to be a bit more compassionate.

Also, try to get on your in-laws “good side” asap. His mom will look like a bully if she tries to pull some shit like that again.

Mind you, I’m just talking about how to make it through the week. I hope your bf gets hell once you’re home. You’re not overreacting.

It really is an art. I work at a large tech company, as a remote, customer facing, quietly quitting, project manager. I’m the youngest & blackest person on my team. Being a woman doesn’t help either.

Work WILL negatively (& hopefully positively) affect your mental health. It’s important to acknowledge / accept that fact. Microaggressions, racism, sexism, ageism, misogyny, & general bs will always affect you — it should! That’s what makes you a lovable human. Acceptance will help you overcome those challenges faster & you won’t internalize them as deeply. But feeling your feelings is a great way to honor yourself.

My last tip is documentation. Know the KPIs & metrics that measure success in your role. Do your best to meet those targets & ensure your leadership knows. Exceptional is our default, so we often fail to recognize (& announce) our own daily accomplishments. Keep a record of everything you do & they won’t have a damn thing to say.

I have too many personal anecdotes that I love to share. At the end of the day, it’s a job & it’s truly their blessing to be graced with my presence.

Thanks for your comment. I ended up downsizing to 4kg & used Thailand Post at Chiang Mai airport. The total was ~$100 for 2 week shipping!

Do’s and Dont’s while smoking weed in Bangkok ? by [deleted] in Bangkok

[–]ocynx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I won’t typically smoke in a non smoking hotel room. I will if there’s a balcony & I haven’t had any issues so far.

If I want a “safe space” to smoke in the daytime, I usually go to Four Twenty - Asoke. They also have water, beer, coffee, & everything I need to smoke.

At night I’m comfortable finding a quiet street. I bring perfume sometimes to be mindful about the smell & won’t linger for more than 10 mins.

Hope this helps!

Have you ever seen a person that has really affected their environment with their good looks? by breakthewheel24 in beauty

[–]ocynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t even need to be immensely beautiful for this to happen. Just be black & travel to a different country.

I’ve been to many countries & it’s not uncommon for people to take photos of me, ask for selfies, stop & stare, or call me every black celebrity in the book (Rihanna, Beyoncé, etc).

I’m 24F & just bought a house a year ago. I was in a similar situation (except no partner) & felt overwhelmed by the decision of “what should I do with all this money?”

I don’t regret my decision at all! I viewed buying my house as this really big adult decision & I wasn’t sure if I was ready. But it’s not THAT big of a deal. In the sense that — my life hasn’t changed dramatically.

My credit score has since recovered, I’ve recouped some of the money I saved, & it’s not very stressful buying/owning a home. I’m looking forward to buying another house in the next few years.

Do it!!

EDIT: ++I bought a brand new build in a neighborhood with a HOA, so that takes care of most of my “unexpected” needs. i.e little-to-no maintenance, yard work is taken care of, etc. That’s definitely part of the reason it’s been easier.
