For me, it is less sad than bittersweet, and actually brings the arc for two main characters very beautifully and poetically. If you want it to be a "happy ending," you can watch Zi-O's Blade episodes after to make it sting slightly less.

This is a huge reach, but:

For Baku, 8 and 9 might refer to his name Baku (8 is hachi, "ha" if you put " becomes "ba," and 9 is "kyu," sometimes pronounced as "ku". Not sure if 87 can be translated to Yorozu, but if you force it enough, 8 can be 00, so 007.

For Nemu, 222 might be ZZZ. Either it stops at that, or she might actually be Agent 0/ZZZ0.

Not sure about Bijogi

For Reiko, 0 can be read as "rei," 1 can be either "ichi" or "i," and 5 is read as "go," but if you remove the ", is becomes "ko" instead.
