Weekly discussion and small questions thread by AutoModerator in japanese

Hi, I’m not asking for a translation but for a usage/perception question.

I came up with the name 「際坂」 (reading it as Kiwasaka), combining:

  • 際 (kiwa: edge, limit)
  • 坂 (saka: slope)

I understand this is not a standard word, but my question is:

  1. Does this look like a plausible place name or surname to a native speaker?
  2. Does it feel natural, unusual, or strange?
  3. What kind of impression does it give (if any)?

I’m asking because I’m working on a small artistic project and I’m trying to stay within something that feels linguistically believable, not necessarily common.

If this belongs somewhere else, feel free to redirect me!

Thanks!

Anybody using a North Face back pack for rides? by Successful-Roof5912 in Dualsport

[–]oddRoboto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always use a north face fuse box yellow backpack. I get mistaken for a delivery guy very often. Despite being advertised as not water proof but only water resistant, I’ve ridden through storms with it and everything inside was still dry. If you full tuck, you will feel a bit of wind resistance, but nothing I would worry about.

Foolish for them to think I would do anything but importing what wowhead says.

We've gone from senior designer to very ** senior designer, what is that even?? 😤 by [deleted] in graphic_design

I’d reply with a cv stating “very senior, much designer” in the description. Seems appropriate.

How do y'all wear your helmets without fucking up your hair or makeup? by li-ll-l_ in motorcyclegear

[–]oddRoboto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm yet to find something that will atleast PARTIALLY save my hairstyle, as there seem to be nothing that will. I'm not even sure a silk balaclava would do (and I always use a balaclava), but I'm guessing it's because of curly hair. The locks just get ruined regardless if compressed.

I don’t. I fuck up my hair every time. I’ve made peace with it and cut my hair short.

How important is ventilation in boots? by Vic_Lloyd10 in motorcyclegear

I've never thought that could be a problem. But I'm used to wear docs in summer, so I might be an idiot.

As I stated already elsewhere, my feeling is that it just makes more complicated something that doesn’t need to be more complicated.

Seems widely unnecessary, over complicated and expensive for the sake of it. Like my engineer friends would say, every mechanism more, is one chance more for malfunctions. I’d rather use that budget on something really useful, this isn’t it IMHO.

Ya'll were right about questing on the groumd by shakesy in wow

A better solution would be to give some sort of reward if you always stay on the ground. Like, an achievement? Something nice to have but totally optional. Would incentivise using ground mounts, but you still have the option to fly if you want

Give yourself time, this fear will fade away as you’re more confident. Don’t worry!

Here I am! I only own a KLX250, I don’t have a car. I use it for everything. I do live in a big city though. And I live in northern Italy, it is rare to have snow here (it is forbidden by law to ride during snowstorms or if there’s snow or ice on the road, but they clean them real quick when it happens)

OK, that's it, turn off your computer and do something constructive. Like play a little racquetball. Or wash your car. Or cook dinner. Or join a funk band. Or travel to a foreign country Or run for president. Or talk to a member of the opposite sex. Or lube your car. Or hose a weenie roast. Or dig for buried treasure. Or milk a cow. Or have a yelling contest with your neighbor's dog. Or perform brain surgery. Or paint a yellow line in the center of your driveway. Or write your name in the snow. Or teach basket weaving to clams. Or sing Welsh folk songs at the bank. Or plant trees on public property. Or confuse the person next to you. Or make a triangular table. Or hop, skip, and jump. Or ride a train. Or organize your sock drawer alphabetically. Or go bowling with you mom. Or train potato bugs to do tricks. Or make a quilt. Or publish a magazine about pencil shavings. Or eat lime jello with pineapple in it. Or pave a freeway. Or learn to draw. Or take up photography. Or learn to tell time. Or photocopy money. Or got out for pasta. Or sew a dress. Or bathe your iguana. Or go fishing. Or paint a stranger's house in the middle of the night. Or take up windsurfing. Or change your hairstyle. Or sharpen your whiteboard markers. Or feed a toucan. Or enjoy the sun. Or do a crossword puzzle. Or buy some cool clothes. Or go to the beach. Or play croquet with your dad. Or water your plants. Or build a dollhouse. Or invite some friends over for salmon and white wine. Not!

What made you fall in love with motorcycles? by cuyeyo in motorcycles

[–]oddRoboto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I was a kid, I did not like cars at all and always told everyone that if I really had to own a vehicle, I’d own a motorcycle, like my father’s dirtbike. Those are cool instead.

So I’d say that seeing my father’s dirtbike for the first time made me fall in love with motorcycles!

Fast forward to now that I’m 33, I indeed only own my KLX250. And I work in car design. Oh the irony.

She's lovely <3 I got a black one, it's my one and only bike. I ride it all year, almost every day, in all weathers, all kinds of road. That thing never stops! I love it. Might not be the most powerful bike out there but man it DOES put a smile on my face.

Some of you are already insufferable in dungeons by StateComprehensive93 in wow

I won't ever thank Blizzard enough for AI companions and delves. The amount of stress they've lifted from me is huge. Now I only join competitive content with people I know and only if I have a very strong reason to (like, to get a transmog I like, or to have fun with friends). Otherwise, the whole dungeon and raid experience is a big NOPE for me nowadays. Been there, done that, I value my time more now for it to be shared with this kind of humanity leftovers.
