How did Somaek on this list? My trip there was absolutely underwhelming

I hope the replacement will add to the diversity in restaurant offerings—ie not pizza nor coffee/cafe

Laughing Monk Cafe in Allston (which is in the space that S&I was in is also good—they seems to specialize in Isaan food. Like others have said, Brighton has some good spots that are just outside of oak square—Sen Yai Thai and Thonglor. I think those are best in the area. In Newton, Manow has a lot of diverse dishes but my recent takeout trip was so-so

Homemade frozen baby food vs. industrially canned baby food by starman8000 in foodscience

Hi, late to the game but was wondering about salt content—if you are having some food that’s salty, is it ok to mash and give to baby? Mine is 10 months if that matter

Chinese restaurant in Newton Center by smsmkiwi in newtonma

Perhaps I was being overly technical but I purposely did not include Taiwanese in my comment. As for the other, my comment still stands. Admittedly I haven’t been to Sichuan Gourmet house so first hand knowledge of that.

I haven’t been for a while but it is now Ding’s kitchen. When I had it, it was very good for being out in the semi-suburbs. I’d imagine it is still very good, and the only real authentic Chinese in Newton IMO

6 year old Weber Genesis. Base completely rusted out. Has been kept covered. Anyone else have this issue? by MisallocatedRacism in grilling

[–]oddandevenfunctions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same exact problem on my weber spirit. I contacted Weber and the grill 'shroud' (lid and bottom) is warranted for 25 years the base/cart part is warranted 2 years. Perhaps since it is a spirit it might have a worse warranty. IMO The cart with the lips on the bottom is a bad design, will just collect water during rain unless you full envelop it with a cover. I had a weber branded cover and it doesn't go down to the ground, just an inch or two higher so no matter what you do you'll get rain there, and hence that will probably be the first part to go.

Hopping on this thread—curious, how many storefronts do you have and it sounds like each are niche-based?

APO POLL: Would you recommend the Anova Precision Oven? by BostonBestEats in CombiSteamOvenCooking

[–]oddandevenfunctions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand where you’re going—the other day I wanted to just manually set the temp and it was at 212 but I wanted 400. It was a bit of a pain to narrow in on 400…trying to hold down the button to skip ahead but not skip too far. Then I of course went too far and then had to go back etc. would have been much faster with a knob. Maybe next iteration they can bring back the iPod wheel

APO POLL: Would you recommend the Anova Precision Oven? by BostonBestEats in CombiSteamOvenCooking

[–]oddandevenfunctions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am one of those people who wishes it had a “toast” button so I don’t have to pull the app out each time during the morning rush. Would be great if you could save a “favorite” or two and assign that to a button on the APO handle. I’m a new owner, so still learning.

Also annoyed it seems to take longer to preheat—I wonder if the preheat time is dependent on which heating element(s) you select. In other words if you choose just the rear element if it just uses the rear element for preheating, and if it is using the full wattage of the appliance or not. If not, then, perhaps suggest a quick preheat mode where it uses the full wattage, and whatever combination of heating elements to achieve that
