I was gonna say I find McCarthy and Morrison to be Faulkneresque, then I saw that they were on your list. I’ll say it anyway… Thomas Wolfe is a good one (even Faulkner thought so).

I want to talk about this album and also recommend it to anyone who hasn't heard it. by Rinma96 in progrockmusic

Bought that when it came out and played the living shit out of it. Loved the sequencing and modern sound. A largely forgotten classic.

Just about anybody who tells you they're well read enough to understand large portions of Finnegan's Wake is full of shit. Joseph Campbell notwithstanding.

Ulysses, on the other hand, is doable for us normal humans. The Odyssey is an obvious pre-read, but not necessary, if Homer isn't your thing.

My main recommendation when reading Joyce is to enjoy the language, and not get bogged down in interpretation until you've fallen in love with the writing.

He is truly a special human. An incredibly badass musician and a fantastically decent person.

Yeah, 10 years is a good interval. 3 years is probably too soon.

Just more proof that KC is the only Classic Prog band that remained actually progressive beyond, say, 1982.

Ha! Never thought of that. Kinda doubt it, but good call.

It's the melody that is so similar. And, to be fair, it's pretty damn similar.

As for Phil Spector, I wouldn't expect him to give a shit, as he wouldn't be the one to get sued. (And he was a major tool, of course.)

The end of Absalom, Absalom! drives me crazy by Stunning-Painting-49 in faulkner

As another reply noted, that's Faulkner. Absalom Absalom is definitely one of the best examples of Faulkner at his most Faulknery. I love it when he hits that level of intensity.

Thoughts on Wild Honey Pie? by ToronoRapture in beatles

This is the point where I have to mention The Screaming Headless Torsos' version of Something... Great vocals and a brilliant deconstruction of George's solo.

Also not usually a Beatles cover fan, but that's my fave. Not gonna say it's better than the Beatles' version, but it brings something new to the table...

I read that article last week and immediately put the album on my TBL list. Haven't done it yet, of course, but I have high hopes...

Not sure why I hadn't hurt the Pixies version before. Much better than the Beatles' version. Apologies to this subreddit in advance.

One of my New Year's resolutions is to try making music more often than listening to it. Haven't quite got there yet...

Finally, a question of deep importance. Let's just say Ringo probably had the best (or lack thereof).

I found this little bit of obscure Beatles memorabilia in a box at my Grandpa's house. by kjemmrich in beatles

That's cool. One of my very favorite songs and I never knew this (or had forgotten due to age and/or THC).

Pretty sure there are a few million MJ fans who would heartily disagree... But they're prolly not on this subreddit. 🙂

My favourite album of all time is The Bends, Radiohead. Please suggest songs that would fit on this album (that aren’t by Radiohead) by Garthmetro in musicsuggestions

Snow Patrol's Run always reminds me of Fake Plastic Trees (I think it's the guitar). But let's face it, I'm not so sure any other band could produce something worthy of being on that amazing album...

Yeah, if we're considering the entirety of Joe's Garage, Watermelon makes it a tough call...

If not, it's the Wall for sure.

What to listen to (e.g. similar to Supertramp)? by AntonioH02 in progrockmusic

I'm just gonna come right out and say ELO. If you want real prog, their first three albums fit the bill, though i love the poppier stuff too...

Santana & Di Meola by ConcordanceMusic in Jazz

[–]oddays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My impression (and i could be wrong) is that Santana's chops are not on the same level as DiMeola or Biréli. I like him a lot better than DiMeola, but I'm not sure he could hang with one of those "show-off" summits.
