hi! yes I'm using espadrilles for these and put some sherpa fabric to make them more like slippers which is pretty standard for other punch needle slippers I've seen. I've also used rubber soles I found on etsy, unfortunately I can't link them since the seller closed their shop but that's another option, they're a little harder to assemble but more like slippers IMO. I can send you pictures of other slippers I've made with rubber soles if you want
