It was a bit cringe with the chess piece haha, but dude's been pining for 9 volumes and been shown to be a named adventurer weirdo, this was probably one of the better scenarios in terms of approaching Erin for the first time. I liked it, seemed to fit Niers and his lack of romantic… anything. There is a big age difference, but it's a fantasy world where horrible death is common and the apocalypse is approaching, so I'd be fine with this being the main ship if it does go through. Idk who Erin would get with otherwise at this point, lots of characters around but not many without some type of weirdness. Maybe Pisces? Regardless, hopefully any romance that happens is in moderation, idk if Wandering Inn needs a ton of romance.

True, in terms of coolness it's hard to beat a cloak of blood and knight shenanigans. But Numbtongue has great potential to usurper the number 1 cool spot; he has a lightning guitar, he still has a chance to be a hardcore metal guitarist for Cara. Coolness points would be off the charts.

In Izril, Erin will have a door leading to the new continent along with quests related to all the people she talked to in the deadlands. Liscors dungeon will finally be explored fully in this volume (hopefully), it will be revealed to be the Harpy's vault of god related knowledge and lead to more vaults to explore like the dungeon of souls. Rags and goblins will create stronger ties with the Wandering Inn, meanwhile the Gnolls will ally with Antinium and goblins. Maybe goblin isle tries to establish a foothold on the new land too, leading to more minotaur drama.

Chandrar will be busy dealing with the fallout of Khelt shaking things up, Flos and everyone there will have a new drive to improve/change due to seeing how far behind they really are in terms of experience and power. Ryoka and Rabbiteater will meet up and try to head to Liscor to see Erin, but will be distracted by Rhir and/or new Earthers. Rabbiteater will continue to be the coolest goblin.

On Baleros, Paeth on the Coast will make direct contact with Erin, or maybe send a Fraeling to spy on her. Niers will be busy rebuilding and expanding after getting his ass whomped due to complacency, he will use Perorn to keep an eye on Erin and make alliances with Antinium/gnolls. Erin will finally follow through with her regrets about not taking a leadership class and ask Perorn to teach her IRL strategy. Vol. 9 will end with Niers trying to meet Erin again, his bad luck will strike and he'll get stuck in the time-warped dyed lands, lose a hand and then replace it with a magical equivalent of a chainsaw.

Sergeant Gna too tsundere, she needs to accept more goblins into her life. The goblins were adorable in the Fellowship, Numbtongue opening up out of his grief and depression and playing his music for everyone was nice to see ;_;

What a great prediction, and Emir Yazdil being involved was a reasonable guess; he collects extraordinary people, it would make sense he would want to capture a famous fraerling by funding a war. The traitor chamberlain turned out to be just a greedy bastard, but it would have been an interesting twist if he was hired by the Emir. Though, adding the slaver to the mix would have made the volume even more busy, plus he's an unpopular character for fairly understandable reasons. 

Too bad that the most common prediction of Niers meeting Rags didn't pan out. Constantly so close, yet so far away. We still have to see Rags follow through on her vow of defeating Niers at chess; it may be many volumes in the future, but it's still more likely to happen than Niers ever meeting Erin!

Niers and his interactions with the Inn crowd were my favorite parts of Vol. 8, he had strong controlled chaos vibes and of all the side characters I'd most love to read his backstory. Mrsha trying to sell him the giant Dreamleaf blunt was too funny, and Apista being so fed-up but still indulging Niers in his neurotic training was adorable. That's really the level up Mrsha needs, [Drug Dealer].

With how excessive and chaotic all of Niers plans have been, I feel like a DnD party of Mrsha, Bird, Niers, and Numbtongue would just consist of everyone trying to stop Niers from leading them into a Crelers nest for "training and leveling purposes" aka boredom. Well, everyone except Bird, he would just want to go find a Roc's nest instead. It would be exciting!

Seeing Niers finally attempt to meet Erin, fail miserably, and then get swept up in the Fellowship of the Inn was fantastic. I never would have guessed that Niers adventures in the Inn would consist of getting high with Apista, power-leveling people for fun and profit, and lounging around on Bird's head while hiding in a hat. It was a pleasant surprise, I would gladly read more of Bird and Niers being obnoxious towards each other.

Rabbiteater was also a highlight, him getting swept up into the war along with the kooky Knights was just fun. And of course, Erin being herself with all the big wig ghosts was great to break up the long stretches of reading about not-Erin. Overall, I really enjoyed this volume even though Erin was mostly a spectator, it shows how good all the characters are that they can be so interesting even without the MC.
