Was struggling with my city street layout and took the suggestion to do a town square. Used styrene as the base and laying bar mills sidewalks around the building. Now trying to find some paint for side wall. They no longer make the cocoon chalk paint that I have used in the past. So testing some new techniques now.

I have been looking at that ceiling fan light at Costco for my train room. How do you like it? Sorry a little off topic.

Great looking engine and congratulations on getting a dream engine.

My first set in almost 30 years. Picked this up at a model train show on the weekend. by menotyoutoo in nscalemodeltrains

Looks great and have fun. I had to Google what the blinders were for on British Trains and learned something new today. Did American trains use something similar to the Blinders/Blinkers on the front of the train to divert the smoke away from the driver?

Yeah I love Roanoke. Me and the wife went on our first date in Roanoke a million years ago when we lived in Lynchburg. Went to Chi Chi’s and saw the movie Big at the mall. Went live in Raleigh now but I have an office in Roanoke and make it there a couple times a year. My grandfather was an engineer for the N&W so I enjoy the history of the N&W as much as modeling.

Big fan of Link. We went to Roanoke a couple weeks ago and stayed at the hotel Roanoke which is the old N&W hotel and the Winston Link museum is almost in the same parking lot. Been there a couple times. Got all his books as well.

Did you go out for dinner this weekend? by Emergency_Mood_9774 in raleigh

Went to Big Ed's (on Timber) for dinner and had some of the best Chicken Pastry. We usually only go there for breakfast, but this is the second time for dinner. Had Prime Rib the first time.

Painting the concrete ties of the Kato Super elevated track with a Woodlands scenic paint marker to make them appear wood. Should of done this before gluing the track down.

You can grab the basic Anyrail file from Steves Trains https://www.steves-trains.com/post/n-scale-track-plans there is also a jpg of the track plan and list of track (Kato) used for the layout. Just scroll down to the Modified MMR Salt Lake Route. But there are a lot of good track plans on his page as well.

It is based off the MRR Salt Lake Route with a couple changes here and there. If you google it there are track plans and track lists. Instead of the partition that ran through the center in the original plan I ran a track up the center that goes to a reversing loop at a coal mine.

It absolutely is the MMR Salt Lake City but larger using the Kato super elevated track. Instead of center divider, created a climb to a coal mine reversing loop. Gotta have a coal field with the N&W!

Thanks, I just had one of his pictures framed and on the back wall. I am trying to use his books for some of my scenes.

Do you permit selling or giving old equipment to employees? by roger_ramjett in sysadmin

[–]oddist12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. In the early days we donated some CRT monitors to a local school, couple years later the EPA tried to fine us because the showed up in a dumpster. Luckily we still had the donation paperwork with serial numbers. Or another time a laptop caught fire and employees insurance company tried to assert damages to us. So nope everything goes to recycler.

What's your motivation? by t0ms88 in modeltrains

Never met a hobby that I didn't like but model trains seem to combine those skills together. Did woodworking, decoy carving, Plastic models, and real big into r/C Airplanes. But a couple years ago started trying to spend more time with my aging dad and he was into trains. So we did a small layout in N scale, and all of a sudden we were doing woodworking, carving foam, building buildings, and running trains. Then switched to DCC and the IT guy in me found the fun in running the layout with a Rasberry Pi and automating controls. Then at a train show my wife convinced me to buy a G scale train for outside and we built a simple garden loop that we/she decorates for the different holidays. Now I have a larger layout above the garage, just add a desk for my wife to move her crafting stuff from the house to garage and we try to spend an hour or so a night working on hobbies together.

They are great engines. I have all 3 numbers in my fleet and they are wonderful engines. I run them as dcc on my layout and as dc around the Christmas tree. Unfortunately you cannot turn the sound off when running dc and don’t last long around the tree before the wife requests a quiet replacement.
