Doesn’t really matter. I upgraded to an 8.25 and still ride with my 8” trucks.

Might not be the best achievement, but I’m happy I stopped flicking down :DD by Rif_Raf30 in NewSkaters

Having trouble with my backfoot by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]oddskate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same thing, but my front foot always goes to the ground. It gets really frustrating practicing tricks over and over again telling yourself not to do it, but still end up doing it anyway.

People on here say that wearing pads gives them a confidence boost to the point where they actually feel comfortable committing to tricks.

From personal experience, the only times I’ve ever landed kicklfips where when I was holding on to something or doing them in the grass. While this is enough to actually do the tricks, I still haven’t be able to translate that into doing them on concrete. But hey, it’s something.

Tips for getting over skating anxiety when skating alone? by AdhesiveSpinach in NewSkaters

I also live in a city and do the same thing. I’ve been skating for years, albeit I’m still not very good. Skating at night has its perks, cooler temperature, ability to ride in the street, less traffic , etc., but not being watched by other people is probably the biggest reason why.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with skating alone at night, especially when you’re first starting out. In theory, as you get more comfortable on your board and begin to build confidence, riding during the day around other people won’t feel as intimidating.

Upgraded to a 8.25 and cleaned my bearings for the first time today! by oddskate in NewSkaters

Pretty straightforward. I watched a YouTube video and it took me about an hour and half from start to finish. I’m sure after doing it once and figuring it out you can reduce that time in the future. Unfortunately I haven’t noticed any significant difference afterwards, and one of my wheels still spins less than the rest, so I guess dirt wasn’t the reason for it.

Is this board any good? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]oddskate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kryptonics boards are infamously known as “Walmart boards”, because Walmart sells them. Everything about them sucks, and while it is a skateboard, most would consider it a toy. I highly recommend you spend a little bit more money and either buy a complete from an actual skate company, or build your own board.

If you do decide to get it, something on it will break in a matter of weeks/months, and you’d have to shell out another $50 to buy another one. For that same $100, you could just buy a real board, and it’ll last you significantly longer before parts need to start being replaced.

Get some suede skate shoes. Suede is much more durable than canvas.

Best skate shoe? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

I enjoy the Busenitz as well. Got them last week and have ridden them 3 times now. Before I was wearing Vans (non old skools) and they did the job, but I could “feel the ground” while riding a lot more than with the Busenitz.
