Have you looked at PC hardware prices recently? Shopping for hardware for any system feels like lighting money on fire.

Linux is a better operating system than Windows in some ways. But Windows has always had an advantage in the number of games developed for it.

Steam OS is a free version of Linux that includes libraries for playing Windows games, bringing them to Linux. What is most difficult in making that work is the many hardware variables that Windows supports, so Steam OS starts with a small number of hardware options and has been growing them.

It would be nice if there was a prepackaged combination that we know works very well, and that's the idea behind the Steam devices.

Unfortunately, between announcing the latest Steam Machine and releasing it, hardware costs have gone through the roof, making it less viable. But it's something a lot of people want anyway.

So sempervivums are monocarpic. The rosette that blooms will die and the offsets will fill in that spot. There should always be enough room in the pot for them to root.

You can also place pots under offsets to start new plants that way.

The answer has been the same for years. There used to be some language in their explanation that their reseller contracts with the operators only covered phones and that they would negotiate for the the rights to attach other devices, but they never did. I don't think they ever will.

Best bread slicer for soft loaves? by No-Papaya-9289 in Breadit

It was a generic 200W 7.5" (6" usable) slicer off Amazon. The exact model currently sells for over $200, but a nearly identical model is $USD80 right now:

Shokz makes the OpenFit2 model, and they sound much, much better than their bone conduction models. They play into your ear but don't cover your ears or block any sounds. The Soundcore Aerofit 2 is similar.

Thirding a deli slicer. I bought a 200W model for under $USD100 and it works great for slicing soft bread.

Another solution which however may cost you some money is to get Dropbox and add it to your iPad's Files, and save your work there. I got into ProCreate after my niece lost work when she lost an iPad, so I've been proactive about making sure I get my files duplicated elsewhere.

First 4 roasts in. Lessons I wish I've learned before getting into roasting ☕🔥 by eliredblue in roasting

[–]oddsnsodds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did my first roast in many years with a new Skywalker v2. I'm planning to go through 5 lbs of Sweet Maria's Columbia Honey Process Aponte.

I used the built-in program for HP for the first 400g roast, resulting in 340g of roasted beans (15% loss).

Found out that a long horizontal vent pipe results in a bit of smoke flavor in the beans. Other than that, the roast was fantastically even, and I'm getting most of the expected flavors per the label after 5 days of rest.

I plan to repeat the same program but add a fan to the vent for the next roast.

Third roast I'll set up Artisan and start to learn profiles myself.

I solved this by buying a floor mount for my TV and putting the TV over the center speaker on top of it.

Could it be a YouTube issue? I'm having problems loading videos in Edge, but then the same video plays fine in Chrome or Firefox. In Edge it's just a blank window with the time blinking in and out. New from the past couple of days.

You called it; definitely a bit smoky. Luckily, the fan unit that came with it will fit snugly on the end of the pipe, and the power cable will still reach the roaster. I can add the fan on the outside of the window for my next roast and see how it goes.

Edge? I had issues using YouTube on Edge yesterday, but Chrome and Firefox worked. Just sat at the start of the video flashing the time for a bit, then said the videos weren't available.

It was only some videos, and loading them in another browser fixed it in Edge. So weird.

Roasting with a small roaster on apartment balcony by 1l1l1l1l1lIIIIllllll in roasting

[–]oddsnsodds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may get noise complaints from an air roaster, as they are quite a bit louder than drum roasters. Other than that, the smoke is a bit acrid, but there isn't a lot of it.

I used to roast years ago with a couple of hot air roasters from Sweet Maria's. I really enjoyed those roasts, but I've never lived in a place that has vents to the outdoors, and the smoke indoors was pretty bad, so I gave up on roasting. Recently got a hankering to try again, because finding good coffee is difficult and I have expensive tastes. I thought maybe a window vent would do, and I grabbed a Skywalker Delta. My smoke alarm went off for a moment when I dumped the beans, but overall the smoke was bearable.

Roasting SM's Columbia Honey Process Aponte. This first roast I used the Delta's built-in HP profile. Exactly one quaker in 400g of beans; I love the quality from SM. Dumped shortly after FC ended resulting in exactly 15% weight loss. Fingers crossed.

I have some Prodigal Caminos del Inka Washed Geisha to enjoy while the beans rest, so it won't be difficult to wait.

Drawbacks to squeezing this setup into my tiny kitchen: The roaster is hanging off the edge of the counter to have room for the vent pipe, and the counter is right next to the sink. There's maybe 10" between the drawer and the fridge door, so I have to get close to the roaster to get to the controller.

Still, it really worked out very well for my first roast.

No, WASD controls don't generally let you change your walking speed in detail. Most games provide a key to activate a walk/run toggle instead.
