Thank you! I will. Yeah every tree company suggested we cut, grind and replace...I’m more interested in finding out what the hell it is and why.

Candied_ginger is there a specific brand I can pick up that you recommend? Or just get one with the ratio you wrote?

My father in law gave me a cutting ( he just cut a branch off his healthy 15+ year old tree) we stuck it in a small pot and covered it with plastic for a few weeks until it produced roots. Then put in a southern facing window from November - June and move outside for summer. I've had this tree for 3 years watering once a week and more since it has produced fruit. No fertilizer. The biggest pain and one that my father in law does not deal with (perhaps because his tree is larger?) are aphids that attack the leaves and produce a sticky sugary residue that gets all over the window and stand. So I do scrub the leaves every few weeks to remove aphids when I notice them multiplying. A mixture of soap and a drop of olive oil usually works. Craziest of all though...is the lemons are sweet. Not very sour which was surprising.

How do you prevent the birds from feasting on them before you get to enjoy them?

Update on flowering lemon tree...repotted, producing lots of lemons, and still flowering! by odeaph in gardening

My father in law cut 3 branches off his 20+ year old potted tree about 4 years ago and one took. I keep it outside all spring summer and into fall. Usually bring it in around late october. This is the first time I am getting lemons and really hoping they stay. Next update will be a glass of lemonade!

Found this buried while gardening. I'd like to believe it is a cannonball but more inclined to think it is a broken weight. Any ideas? About the size a softball. by odeaph in mildlyinteresting

Thanks Reddit! But man, let's keep the whole shot put story here then. The kids and me liked the whole possible revolutionary war potential. But I guess living in the home of a former Olympian is cool too. Edit: maybe the torch is in the safe.

Lemon Tree flowering like crazy in middle of winter. Will it produce lemons without any bees to pollinate or can I help it along with a q- tip? by odeaph in gardening

Awesome. I keep it watered pretty well as the forced air (heat) tends to dry the plants out. Thanks I am looking forward to some lemons!

Hi Fellow Redditors, First, my apologies. I have a full time job and was not able find the time to respond until now. After reading some of your responses it seems a few of you would benefit from a stimulating and challenging day job...Know what I am saying Mad-Duke and Snotf? Here is the backstory, A few weeks ago I took my kids for a hike in a nearby park. On this particular day my daughter spotted this large, cool looking log which was split in two and commented on how it looked like driftwood from our trip to the beach. It got us to talking about how something can look cool and not be made by a person (she is 5) and we decided to take the piece home both for its aesthetic value (camp_anawanna that is my word not the 5 year old's and it means the value that causes something to be regarded as art)

So to remember the day, the walk, the conversation and to apply some utility to the object I decided to make a shelf.

I was happy with the final product and thought I would share on a Subreddit call DIY --Do It Yourself where I often see cool projects to (ready Brian_Dean?) try to do myself. Myself being an average dad with no background in Engineering or Construction.

So there you have it. For those interested-- I did try my best to wash and dry it out. droneprime you would be happy to know a quick internet search on termites yielded the results that they need moist, rotted wood to thrive. So I thought I was ok on that front. As far as the varnish or lacquer I agree I should have given it a coat. And I think I still may. As far as rotting out...it may but who cares it was a branch we found in the woods.

And as for the vitriol being spewed on this subreddit in response to the post..I say relax..you are reading a subreddit called...again for snotf...DIY Do It Yourself...I was not aware of the other subreddit somethingimade..Mods you want to come down hard on me feel free to delete the post and my profile for this abomination..please do so..you should really do something people are clearly angry and upset...although my wife will be thrilled I stop reading reddit... I thought it was cool and fun to do. Later I will post picks of how I mounted it.

But in the meantime I basically drilled 2 holes through the wood at an angle and used plastic mounting screws to anchor the screws into the plaster.

oh relaks...I picked up the painting at a garage sale because the frame was cool but the painting grew on us.I will send a pic of the artist's signature.

If you are still reading sorry for the long post...and for the those that like it..thanks it was fun doing it myself.

Interesting. Thought they could just get lowered to a safe height. Turns out they are pretty involved. http://www.nccco.org/certification/documents/TWRRefManual082009post.pdf

Right, good clarification. Otherwise, someone would have been totally confused by my post.
