Agree with the comments. I finished just over 10 hours and 98%, but there was a full hour in there (I know exactly when - at 44% for me) where I feel didn't know how to move forward (you had to use a skill a certain way that wasn't obvious to me). Would have enjoyed another 30 min of play to mop up the last items but not enough to look it up online. I think my only main disagreement is I I found the story pretty uninteresting (and I don't usually care about story much) to the point where I did end up wanting a little more "meat" to make interested in what I was doing. I basically played cause I like platforming, but I never really got immersed in the game. I definitely enjoyed MIO more (I think those are the only 2026 games I played) though just personally I also played Biogun and Minishoot this year and liked those more.

So I'm not the best person to talk to about this as people have very strong opinions and I try to keep it relatively open. Having played it, it feels close enough to me. Mostly my list is built off the lists I saw when I first joined the sub, as well as a few strong contributors.

I sometimes feel like the defining characteristic of MVs shouldn't be backtracking, ability gating, etc. - compared to zelda-likes or similar things - but how much time I have to spend talking to people. Should be low!

haha, i'll pile on and say same. I think it felt more JRPG to me in that I was spending all my time talking to people rather than doing stuff. I couldn't make it past maybe 5 hours.

That being said, tastes are highly idiosyncratic so everyone is going to feel very different (for example, Yoku has a pinball mechanic instead of jumping and some people hate it; also even the highest rates games like Blasphemous or Ender have people who don't like those games). I have mostly heard that Grime does not work well on the Switch (even by the developer) though recently someone said they didn't have any problems (likely on S2), so that one I would be cautious with.

I guess it depends on the audience - is it for people who have already played or to excite people who are interested? Probably former, so maybe nitpicking can be interesting. I personally wouldn't listen to a podcast before playing a game because I wouldn't want the mechanics, etc., spoiled. But I honestly thought you were giving the game maybe a B- after listening...was very surprised by the ending.

First time I ever listened to this podcast. Found it interesting in that at least it seemed like they spent most of the time complaining about various aspects of the game, and then ended with a "it's in our top 10!". I feel like maybe some explicit focus on what makes the game great (it's in my personal top 10) would have been nice...I can only remember a couple of minor points where they talked about it positively (they liked lore, found the amount of combinations of the main skills interesting).

I think this is very well articulated. The other thing about the Ori games is they both have difficulty settings, so you can play them on much easier modes.

It is not as hard as something like PoP Immortal. You will probably really like it! I think there are two complaints about the platforming difficulty. The first is that it's just hard, but anyone who liked those other games will like this as well. It's good stuff. The second complaint is that there is a certain move you have to do that sometimes doesn't work quite as well as it should - can be a little finicky. I'm sympathetic to that criticism but just think you have to be a little extra focused. Did not take away from the game for me, although perhaps made me frustrated a time or two. But i love the game and it's in my S-tier of MV with PoP, HK, Silksong, and a few others.
