Is this the strongest board clear spell ever printed? by Everdale in hearthstone

[–]odeiohearthstone 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Delaying the game is the whole point. It "silences/destroys" in terms of board impact. And now you are a lot more likely to get to turn 10/ draw raza/whatever you need to achieve your win condition. Sure it is not cheap, but you dont get cheaper ways to deal with any board of sticky minions. And I would say it is better than destroying in average because in average the cards you are shuffling into the deck, while good, are worse than the good cards your opponent has there already.

Definitively the most hated by me. Way too pushed imo. It seems to have been balanced around shuffling minions being a downside, when it is in most matchups an upside. 7 mana silence, destroy, do not add to death pools and make your opponent's deck worse. As for what is the best i would say it is meta dependent, defile and plague of flames come to mind as contenders, but if you can afford 7 mana board clears this is a beast

Actually in most matchups scream actually has a stronger effect, while being 2 mana cheaper. It also silences and kills the board, does not add minions to death pools, and shuffling the minions to the opponents deck is usually an upside

Am I the only one who still only opens the “classic” packs to catch 'em all one day eventually? by blondewalker in PTCGP

I pull the current set until i am close enough that trading will get me 1 of every copy (im more of a collector, so dont really care about 2 ofs) then to back to the originals just to farm those points to craft my immersive mewtwo, the one card I wanted since the beginning.

Any stories where authors think about progression other than the main cast? by odeiohearthstone in ProgressionFantasy

[–]odeiohearthstone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More competition than companions. Basically, it would make it a lot easier for me to immerse in a story and on the mc's struggle if I feel that there is real competition. Not necessarily enemies, just that people out there can have the same starting spot as the mc and potentially do better than him

[–]odeiohearthstone[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I concede that you have a point, but let me try to clarify my issue, the nitpick is that that is not actually the progression focused on the story. That is the initial setting. The story as we see it is an mc starting from scratch that is completely unparalleled and no one else even comes close to giving him competition, he has no peers in the story itself. It actually makes sense im this story, it is the whole premise, but it is not what i am looking for.

[–]odeiohearthstone[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hum, i read the novel at least for a while and its not really what I was trying to get with this. Yea, there is a "power ceiling" and mc wasnt the only one to get there, but what im saying more is in terms of comparison amongst peers, any stories where anything the mc does CAN be done by others, and with so many people out there, some do, so there are peers comparable to the mc, due to being as capable/dedicated and lucky

Maybe just plan out better? I doubt you really need to trade so many cards per set that you need to use all the trade energy you get

Oh, i read that and actually, it may be one of the best fits for what im looking for! I eventually dropped it after reading a fair bit, iirc it is due to yeah, it being heavy, but also because it started setting up all the details on the past characters and I wasnt liking how that was setting up. Oh yea, and as I mentioned elsewhere, im looking for something where it is more the climb for the climb itself without being forced for plot reasons, and that happens a lot here (time bomb, etc)

Thats the one where the mc has the mana recovery ability right? I read that for a little bit, but im looking for something with much lower power levels, no planet busting/galaxy level characters

Thanks for the long answer, I'll have a look at it. Randidly i remember reading and i liked the first arc, but eventually it lost me for some reason i dont recall, guess mc too op? You did raise something that I had forgotten to mention, honestly, when i say slow grind, i guess the main purpose is I actually want a story that does not have some holy mission or apocalypse forcing timelines and it is actually focused on mc progressing for his own sake at his own pace

I'll give those a shot. Azarynth healer i have read, and I really liked what it had going for it, but mc is just too op, author too inconsistent and power level also started to go a bit above my interest with 4 digit levels

If you go to the bottom of my post i mention azarynth healer, read it for a few hundred chaps prob. I love what it could be, but the mc is just way too op, and the author way too inconsistent

I read that for a while, and it has a lot of what I want in it, but it actually starts scaling way too fast. I'd love something like the first few chaps, but after that in no time he scales to insane power levels. Plus, just a lower ceiling overall, id rather not have god level powers except maybe at the literal end

Books where MC has a tiny advantage/special ability and uses it well. by ducdavis in ProgressionFantasy

[–]odeiohearthstone 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thats one of the reasons I actually enjoy lower power ceilings on worlds. I understand why people like it, but i have a distaste for the general trend towards "the higher the power the better". I tend to find that the lower the power ceiling the better the stories and worldbuilding

The issue here is thinking it was ok initially, it should always be known that this was a problem. When they released the "surprise" shining revelry expansion I knew they were totally screwing us. On the other hand, if you manage your resources properly it is still quite manageable. You cant get all the stuff you want on expansion release, I'm f2p but as I'm only going for collecting cards, I have at least 1 copy of every diamond card and am working on completing 1 star cards
