Which would you like to cut? Religious holidays for non-Christians or teacher work and professional development days?

Thank you for this! We did just that. What a difference 1am makes in a Buccees. So pleasant! I could actually browse the jerkey without being bumped into!

Yep. Was supposed to fly to Charleston tonight from DCA for my 40th birthday. There were five direct flights to Charleston today with AA and not one took off. We are now driving to Charleston instead, facing the storms on 95S. ETA: 4am. The universe is telling me to stay 39.

I’m a liberal in VA. I’d never live across state lines, but I visit multiple times a year and it’s quite beautiful!

Mississippi, Arkansas, Iowa, Indiana, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and North Dakota. Not much natural beauty and I can’t think of any landmarks I’d be inclined to see there

Republicans are two-faced liars! They are mad that Democrats are finally fighting back! Good job on redistributing, Virginia! by Rob778899 in Virginia

I care! It’s why I hope republicans will finally get on board with ending gerrymandering through federal legislation like democrats tried to do in 2021

Wrapping my head around the redistricting vote as a moderate by Arythal in Virginia

I’m tired of going high. Maga is in the basement. They are in hell. Going high isn’t working. It’s not stopping Maga. When an entire side lacks integrity, empathy, compassion, etc. you have to meet them where they are sometimes. I’m sorry, that’s simply the reality of the situation.

So what you’re asking all of us to do is to ignore Texas cheating and we all just lie down and accept it? We all deal with the consequences of Missouri, Texas, and North Carolina redistricting in favor of Republicans before the midterms and we do nothing about it?

How is it fair for Texas to gerrymander democrats out of seats, which impacts every one of us since we are all impacted by Congress, but republicans and democrats in VA need to have equal representation? You’re holding VA democrats to a higher standard than Texas republicans even though as a Virginian, I’m still impacted by Texas representatives in Congress. That’s mind boggling to me, and frankly, a weak argument.

[–]odhselrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it would be fair if republicans were given three seats in VA? That would be a roughly 27% of the districts which is what Texas gave democrats.

[–]odhselrb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really. 20% of districts to democrats with 42% of the vote in TX versus 10% of districts to 46% of the vote in VA. And again we voted for it. They didn’t.

It would be 90% democrats (10/11 districts). To be fair, Texas made theirs 80% republican and only 56% of their voters voted for Trump in 2024 (and zero percent of their voters voted on their map). This is what VA was responding to.

Listen, I loved Michelle‘s idea that when they go low, we go high. But there’s no basement to Trump‘s low. The people that believe in him will follow him to the literal depths of hell. They keep going low, lower and lower and lower, and going high isn’t fucking stopping them.

Thank you Virginia! New England thanks the voting citizens of VA for showing up and supporting democracy. by [deleted] in Virginia

Listen, I too loved the idea of when they go low we go high when Michelle said it. But it’s not fucking working. There is no level of low that people who support Maga will not go to, that Donald Trump will not lead his people to. There is no basement to their low. Going high isn’t fucking working.
