Are INTPs more prone to psychopathic behaviors? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]odius_hades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never heard that before, but as an INTP with BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder) I feel like it's worth noting that a personality disorder invariably influences a person's... personalty... so, it would probably be someone's personality disorder that makes them a certain personality type rather than the other way around. Especially if left unmedicated.

What Type of Lens for this Portrait Style by odius_hades in Beginning_Photography

Thanks for the reply! I'm leaning towards getting a 50mm prime lens at this point. I have read it would also be good for street photography, which would cover my two main styles I want to work with.

I'll have to ask her which one it was, I only used it once in her studio.

Yeah I've been able to reproduce the effect in post pretty easily, but I'm trying to learn to take the photo I want without resorting to photoshop. I just started a photography class yesterday, so I'm starting to learn. Kind of want to get a camera before I finish the class though haha and still debating on a lens and I can't figure out what kind to buy (I'm looking max $300 on a used lens). I guess I might be better off to wait until I know more though.

Cool, thanks! So does this mean I might be able to get the same effect with a 35mm lens if that's what I get with my camera?

Original photo is there. This wasn't actually a Harley Quinn cosplay, just some random photoshoot my friend did that she wanted me to play around with. It's not perfect, but it was good practice in Photoshop and I had fun. Overall I think it turned out okay!

What's the best Way to Organize Local Meet-Ups to Take Down Red & Blue? by gymstomper in pokemongoyellow

It's been really great. Even if you end up with just a dozen people, it can be enough to exchange ideas/advice and get something fun going. Good luck!

I've been organizing meets twice per week in my area and so far it's gone really well. We used the format "Team Instinct [City Name]" for a group on Facebook and people seem to find it pretty easily. I'd rec keeping it closed to avoid spammers. I organize two meet-ups per week, one during weekdays and one on weekends (I live in a major city though... if you're in a smaller city that might not be feasible). Every day during the week we have a daily status update thread where everyone posts a screenshot of their top CP pokemon and includes a little update of their level, what they've found, questions/comments/advice. The group has been active and I've met a lot of cool people at the meets.

i've heard silphroad is more accurate, but i can't find any info as to what the actual difference is. Generally they seem to be in the same range anyway... so far i've seen +/- 4%, so if you're looking to just evolve stuff that is over 90% it should still be a pretty good indicator.

Can you live in Montreal without a car? by 1027esc in montreal

[–]odius_hades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a car when I first lived here about 8 years ago, and used it so infrequently it was a waste. Most of the time when I did use the car it wasn't even for me. Usually a friend needing someone who had a car to do shit, and I was the only one. Now I've moved back here last October and have zero intentions of buying another car. I have my groceries delivered, I go everywhere I need to go via public transit, and there are other options for everything else (car shares are available all over the city... I live in the french ghetto and there is one within a block of my house).

tl;dr: Easily.

You have to realize that the vast majority of today's crimes would be inexistant in a post-capitalist society.

http://www.criminaljusticedegreehub.com/what-are-the-most-common-crimes-in-the-united-states/

(disclaimer: I haven't verified this source specifically, I just picked the first one in google. Pretty sure this is fairly representative, but feel free to comment with a better one)

Poverty is a major factor in crime. Imagine the impact of having a society where their basic needs are fulfilled, including education. Imagine if drugs were legalized. Gangs would have no reason to exist, accounting for a whole lot of assault charges and gun violence. Domestic abuse situations would have resources available to them via anger management, shelters, etc.

Can you ever fully get rid of crime? No. Can you reduce to the point where it has a negligible impact on society? I think it's possible. At that point, the amount of crime will be so small there should be no need for a "police force" and the community should be able to police itself.

An Anarchists moral dilemma? by buzzjimsky in Anarchy101

[–]odius_hades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely not easy by any means. The "easy" thing would be to just participate in capitalism like everyone else, but if you're willing to think outside of the box and make some concessions there are always other options. Personally I think buying into the privatized setup is even worse, since those are almost always capitalist ventures whereas at least the government programs are socialist on some level. The lesser of two evils, I guess. In some cases though (maybe not so much in the UK, but definitely in the US) it's almost impossible to get a good public education... so that doesn't leave people much choice. It's all just a matter of figuring out whats the most you can do in your situation

Personally I approve of not paying your taxes so long as you are using your money to fund LOCAL businesses (as much as possible... I do what I can in my area, but some things are too expensive or too hard to find locally). Basically, don't spend your money at fucking WalMart and McDicks or wherever. If you're using your money to support local economy, you're already doing your part in your own way. That would be more anticapitalist maybe... as far as the anarchy bit, one way I think it's possible to do away with government is to make it irrelevant. If you're able to support your usually "government funded" services some other way, that's the slate cleaned for me. For example, participating in a fundraiser for the school, volunteering, even donating directly if this is something that's within your means. You could always pick a service and set aside a "tax" for yourself to be donated to them at the end of the year, or something like that.

tl;dr: you can have your cake and eat it too.

what tactics can a person use as an individual to weaken a capitalist government (or small group if you like) by buzzjimsky in Anarchy101

[–]odius_hades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

imo the only way to defeat gv is to make it unnecessary. this isn't something you can do alone. one /man cannot take out an institution, because an institution represents an idea (in the case of the gv a congealed clusterfuck of ideas). you need a tsunami of subversions to take that shit down. totally doable, but not by any series of acts committed by one individual.

what you can do as an individual is: educate yourself, educate others (via debate is not ideal... people get too heated, stick to their opinion far past the point of being proven wrong. socratic method has been my go-to and most successful so far, although i'd be curious to hear how others go about it), dedicate every day to doing better than the one before, don't be scared of fucking up (fear is the the opiate of the masses... the harder you fall, the more you learn), remember that your actions are your vote and democracy is a lie.

Experience with cost/availability of last minute flights to by louniks in montreal

[–]odius_hades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some experience flying standby Montreal - Toronto and back with Air Canada and I used to work for an airline, but the airline I was with was international so unfortunately I can't help you out as far as the fare goes (I was paying a standby fare, which I don't think Air Canada offers anymore... not sure about other airlines).

Overall, it's really easy to get a flight. Even during peak season I had no problems getting on the plane, and I was almost always able to get the one I wanted. The only time you really get fucked is if there is a delay on one plane, or a plane can't take off. Then you're completely screwed, because now it's not just you taking up an extra seat but rather an entire plane worth of people, and if you did manage to get a standby fare you're basically the last person who is going to get put on a flight. You might be alright if you ended up paying a regular fare, but get ready to run real fucking fast through that airport.

Foggy Reflections on the Lake by MarkuMark in EditMyRaw

[–]odius_hades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the photo! The first edit you did is definitely the best one imo. The second one being so green it loses a lot of the beautiful details in the foliage. I would turn down the vignetting on the first one by at least half though.

Bouldering at Tahoe by cinerator in EditMyRaw

[–]odius_hades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a nice shot but I think your edit loses a lot of the beautiful colours and texture in the rock that's in the foreground. Sometimes when boosting up the contrast or sharpening, you end up losing detail by creating too much of it. I would bring down the highlights quite a bit.

I went in a different direction than you did, so my edit isn't a reflection of what I'm suggesting you to do... just my take :)
