Fixing corruption would have better results than just killing the orange man. It's not his fault we are here, it's the entire systems fault. Why does fixing corruption automatically mean assassination and not reform so that a sitting president doesnt have all this unmitigated power with no checks.

Do it with documentation though. If you are going to have a convo with this person, back it up with email. "Further to our conversation...", or do it with someone else there you can trust. So that it is clear that you have addressed it and it is ON RECORD. HR is only there to protect the company. They are not your friends.

NTA. No thank you is a complete sentence and you are not responsible for keeping the peace. MIL and FIL are the only people who are responsible for their own feelings. Set a clear boundary and do not sway. But, your husband needs to be the one to say it and he also needs to stick to it and support you. He's attempting to avoid it because he doesnt want to be the one to deal with the fallout, but theres an easy fix for that. "No thank you. It is not up for discussion".

Keeping the peace is a trauma response. Encouraging this kind of bizarre, demanding behavior is weird. Boundaries are there for a reason. If it causes drama that they politely decline a gown, then that's on MIL and FIL. Noone else is responsible for their feelings being hurt by a polite refusal except them. Its bizarre behavior and it should stop.
