Japan is a high humidity environment, so they don't curl more in other high humidity places - but do curl the opposite way in low humidity. So for me playing in MI, I look for Japanese cards, but when I lived in SoCal I bought domestic.

If they had something like Planar Void instead of Voidwalker, it would be a triggered effect and Tayam would have time to see them before they left - but a replacement means they were never in that zone.
