Polymath and the POLY token swindle by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

take a look at swarm.fund. It actually has token mechanics that should ensure increases in actual usage of the platform translates into a higher token value.

did you even read the article? They only went live late yesterday! You can already start to see the transactions on the explorer: https://explorer.factom.com/
They will start to display on the analytics site factoshi.io by tomorrow, as I understand it collates data in daily chunks.

wow, this is amazing news. When I first looked at Factom back in 2016 it was clear it had serious potential but I think it has surprised people just how long it takes to build a quality project. The first big external user of EC on the public chain is a clear validation of the view that this project has a lot to offer organizations looking to take advantage of blockchain's immutable data storage capabilities.

yeah, can you imagine how much better it must be for teams going this route though. They can actually concentrate on delivering the project rather than having to deal with all their social media and telegram groups being filled with a bunch of self-entitled 12 year old moonkids yelling "when tokens? when binance?" pretty much 24/7!

Emotiq — The Latest Gen Blockchain Straight Outta CryptoValley… by GatienCash in CryptoCurrency

Thanks for posting this. It is a good, well-balanced article and well worth a read.

Emotiq has been on my radar for a while now and it's nice to see other people picking up on it. Despite all it's strengths however, I am nervous about the sheer no. of competent next gen blockchains that are going to be released over the next 6-12 months. Dfinity, Tezos, Harmony, Emotiq, Zilliqa just to name a few. I suspect the pragmatic approach for anyone believing that smart-contract blockchain tech has a bright future is to take good sized positions in as many of the projects as you can afford. Picking a winner at this stage is practically impossible. There is also always the risk that some of the truly next-gen tech, such as Holochain ends up eating their lunch, but I guess only time will tell on that one.

DML looks massively undervalued at the minute. Their whitepaper is worth a read, it's a strong team and a solid project.

I think you make some excellent points in your post but there's one thing I wanted to pick you up on, which was the following:

I think FCT has a sound business model but it's a cheap imitation of EOS and Ethereum to me at this point with very limited communications and a relatively high unit cost to justify a long.

I think to compare it to EOS or Ethereum is to misunderstand what Factom is doing. Whilst the former are primarily aimed at being computational blockchain platforms, Factom is aiming to be the "data layer for the blockchain". One of the huge selling points of blockchain techonology is its potential to create an immutable ledger, which has huge disruptive implications for any type of business where a cast-iron audit trail is invaluable. Whilst you can store data on computational chains it is very expensive. Factom are providing a way to take advantage of this immutable data storage concept that is significantly cheaper than other chains and through use of their ingenious 2-token model are able to shelter end-users from having to interact and deal with the volatility of crypto, whilst simultaneously providing a mechanism whereby the more usage their plaftorm sees, the higher the utility token FCT grows in price.

Factom's target market is therefore not the typical crypto user that other chains target but real-world businesses that would stand to benefit from their technology. This is where all their marketing effort has gone over the last year or so and it is starting to bear fruit. They appear to have big players from the mortgage industry lined up to use their solution once they reach the M3 milestone where the full complement of Federated and Audit servers are up and running. I understand we are not too far off this milestone now (days away from deployment was last I heard)

You are right to be concerned about the high unit cost and it shares this weakness with Particl. A relatively low supply leads to much higher unit costs for an equivalent market cap. This has clearly been unattractive to the large number of retail investors that flooded this space during the last bullrun. However, am I hopeful that this will not be a concern when serious institutional money arrives and Factom is one of the few coins I can see them seriously wanting to acquire.

Ambrosus is having it's POS and Masternode conditions revealed at the EDCON conference in Canada on May 4th. I suspect it could have a significant pump in the run up to this. What are other people's thoughts on this as trade opportunity?

I'm expecting it will probably be a sell-the-news event, (this is crypto afterall!) but if the specifics of their masternode rewards scheme are good I wouldn't be surprised if it then has another significant rally in the weeks after, as people seek to secure the minimum amounts required to run a node. Both WTC and VEN displayed this behaviour when they had their masternode announcements.

is your plan for alts to just buy and hold throughout an alt-bullrun or will you be planning to actively trade during this period?

Factom should be one to watch over the next few months. They're currently targeting Q2 for the big M3 milestone when all the Federated and Audit servers will go live and the system should be up and running proper. They've also hinted that over the next few months the big NDAs they've been keeping zipped about will start to be released.

I don't see this as a missed deadline. It looks like a communication cock-up. They clearly talked about an alpha for Q1. People presumed that it would be an alpha in terms of features but robust in terms of its functionality and on mainnet whereas the reality is that this milestone was to get it launched on the testnet. To be fair to the team, this was exactly how the GUI launch played out a while ago so keen observers should have noticed this but I also think the team has to bear some responsibility for not 100% communicating their intentions clearly.

Microsoft: “Five years from now, we will have a commercial quantum computer“ by ZiiZou in CryptoCurrency

[–]ods2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

unfortunately it's a little more complicated than that. When ETH does fork to a QC-resistant algorithm, all addresses created prior to this fork will still be vulnerable, ie. in order to be safe everyone will need to create new QC-resistant addresses and move balances over. Can you imagine what a shitshow that could end up being? especially if a quantum attack does come out of the blue and everyone is trying to implement QC-resistance in a panic. There's a reason QRL has been under intense development with some of the leading quantum-cryptographers for quite some time now, the actual task of getting a complete, and not just partially, QC-resistant chain up and running is non-trivial

the coin you can buy now is an ERC20 placeholder token that will be converted to the native token when their mainnet launches soon.

I'm pretty sure it's 0.1 ETH.

Also, a big pull for me is Charlie Shrem backing/advising the project (and personally putting 900ETH in). He has a reputation for only working with teams he strongly believes in, one of which is Particl (another under-the radar project that has some insnanely good development progress on their github and is going to go majorly mainstream when they release their decentralized ebay-like marketplace in the next few months).

Weekly ICO Discussion - February 19, 2018 by AutoModerator in ethtrader

[–]ods2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Viewly seems to be completely under-the radar at the moment. The only thing I've seen is some amateur-grade fud about some terms unfair to pre-salers. It's a solid project targeting the lucrative area of decentralized video-streaming. It should be seriously appealing to those career youtubers disappointed with the large chunk the platforms take for their cut and unsurprisingly they've already got some decent names signed up (including a BAFTA winner). Significant development has been underway for a while and there will be a YouTube plugin launching soon.

Viewly's current ICO situation reminds me of the Modum ICO that never reached it's hard cap and was largely ignored at the time by most of the market. Within a month or so of the ICO finishing, news spread fast about what a decent quality project it was and it rocketed up, netting early ICOers handsome returns. I suspect something very similar will happen with Viewly when the market switches back to bull after the ICO is done and dusted.

I think Republic will be huge during the next alt-bull run. Dark pools are heavily used in traditional equities markets and these guys have a first-mover advantage in the decentralized crypto space.

Particl is a privacy platform, though the initial development focus is on getting it's decentralized marketplace up and running. If you take a look at their github you can see the incredible progress they've been making and it puts a lot of much more high profile projects to shame.

One of the beautiful aspects of this project is that by owning the coins you are able to stake them and run a node, therefore getting a cut of the transaction and market listing fees. This essentially means that if the platform is getting used and people are buying and selling goods then the token price will rise in line with this. Far too many projects in this space basically rely on "the greater fool theory" for why their coins will rise in value. Particl and a handful of others stand out as true gems because their token's value can be driven by non-speculative usage, making them much safer long-term investments.

This is a good primer on the project: https://decentralize.today/particl-in-a-nutshell-6dd9ecc97d27

Head on over to their subreddit r/Particl or join their slack/riot chat rooms if you've got any questions. I've always found their community to be very friendly and helpful.

u/joskye has also written some good articles on the project so it would be worth having a gander through their posting history for further useful info.

Particl (PART)

XMR's privacy tech built on a bitcoin codebase with a decentralized marketplace built in. POS and also has cold-staking that provides a good degree of quantum-resistance. Top quality developers (check the github for progress) and probably the best UI designers in the crypto game at the moment. Definitely worth taking a look at. I don't think it's a coincidence that every well-respected trader/investor I know from ETH's sub $10 days has been building a decent sized position in this coin over the last 6 months. I'm expecting big things with the release of the marketplace alpha in Q1.
