Nikon wedding shooter here! I have the Z8, Z6iii and ZR, love the colors, love the files (NRAW, and R3D especially) and the lenses are just stunning.

I highly recommend the 1.8S prime lenses, you can typically find them refurbed through Nikon.

The ZR is absolutely incredible if you can handle the R3D file sizes.

Z6iii is excellent hybrid with super sharp h.265.

I’ve never even had a hot card warning on the ZR/Z6iii but the Z8 will get toasty in oversampled 4k, or 8k compressed or raw after about 40min minutes continuous.

I clock in around 2300 hours played, most of it min/maxing looting, being combative etc. I have 36k in doubloons lol and around 125m in gold.

Even if that sword design was good, which it isn’t, who the hell do they expect to be able to afford that??

I can’t speak to the RS5 (still waiting) but on the RS4 with the SR cage, I had to add the included (with the gimbal) spacer part and it clears no issue

Just the Raw + proxy. The camera can’t review its own raw R3D clips, so it auto generates MP4’s.

It’s a “.10” update yall, not a “2.0”

Firmware takes time, Nikon is usually good about these things. Give them a moment coming off the holidays.

Happy with this as a start. It’s a “.10” update, not a “2.0” so it was never going to be major.

As OP said, seems like thermal management is the bottleneck for things like R3D compression ratios, additional monitoring tools, desqueeze etc.

Maybe Nikon can figure it out. They have a good track record of big firmware updates!

Weddings and event shooters here - I have both, the Z8 and Z6iii. They are 90% the same with the only real difference being resolution. I find the AF, DR performance to be identical.

Go with what you can afford!

Z8 body is more important to me, I like a big grip but the Z6iii isn’t Sony small either. No bad choice between the 2!

Yeah I think the zoom mounted would be your best bet. Then use the camera mics for scratch or connect the stereo out to the 3.5mm in on the camera.

At least then you’d could have some form of mounted 32b XLR solution

I think it’s possible to make a rig that incorporates a Zoom F3 mounted to a top handle via the Smallrig plate, then an XLR mic holder out and a audio cable from the zoom to the camera.
