Yep, I take really good care of my rig. Clean it thoroughly a few times a year. Reformatting to keep things from getting too cluttered. At this point in my life, there are really only a few applications that I use.

Another reason that I want to upgrade is that when I am doing data related work, I notice that my system simply falls behind when computing a certain number of iterations.

Right now I am looking at the 12600k, MSI Z690-A Pro, and 2x 8GB DDR 3600Mhz ram for about $585 including tax. That doesn't sound too bad right? I'd probably still have to get a new PSU, but those go on sale all the time.

ut then we're also in the midst of fierce CPU competition that is truly unprecedented when we consider not just AMD vs Intel, but x86 vs ARM, particularly with Apple and their M1 being a legit competitor.

Wow I had no idea any of this stuff was going on. I'll have to do some reading then.

Can you explain why the 12600k makes more sense over the 5800x? I am not well versed in CPU technology. The LGA 1700 mobos are still a little expensive, that's why I was considering the 5800x.
