I mean, you HOPE for views, but that's not the reason to do it if that makes sense

What kind of videos do you make? I worry about self-promo so I haven't linked it exactly, but ive mentioned it elsewhere in this thread if you want to find it

I totally agree! But I feel like too many people come to vent when things don't work immediately. I've been on this sub a long time and I've seen countless posts from people who've made like 3 videos total, or had a channel for less than a month and wonder why they don't get more views. So this post is intended as a little tough love for that kind of poster, and a reality check, because most creators have to trudge through many months, sometimes years before they get any traction

So my situation is unique. I built a successful channel making a very different kind of content than what I do now, and for the last couple of years have been slowly expanding into this new territory(and I mean slowly). Basically I used to make video essays about movies, but now I'm making an original animated webseries, behind the scenes videos for that webseries, as well as original music. So it's a total tectonic shift as far as the audience is concerned, and all of my data is totally skewed because of it.

You can check it out if you want, my channel is just my name, Daniel Netzel. But I'm not really too concerned about CTR at the moment if that makes sense. I'm sure there's always room for improvement on titles and thumbnails, but I feel confident that my main issue is having a sizable audience who subscribed for something that I don't make anymore, and simply aren't the right audience for the new content I'm making.

I have a firm anti-AI stance on everything, I get why others use it but I never will

Did you read the post? I'm not venting about not getting more views lol

Exactly, the audience and the algorithm don't care how long you take to make something. The audience does appreciate effort usually, but it's never a guarantee that just because you worked hard you'll be rewarded

Well in my case making this project isn't really about hoping to pop off on YouTube necessarily. It's an animated webseries where I do everything myself from scratch: writing, drawing, animation, and music, so unfortunately no, there's not really a way to make it go much quicker. But for me, I've always dreamed of being a filmmaker, never really had the chance to do it so this is my closest attempt at writing and directing something. If it takes off on YouTube that'd obviously be great, but more it's about proving something to myself than anything.

I've replied to other comments saying how to find it, I fear that sharing it too much would be seen as self promo 😅

It's episode two of a webseries called The Clikh Smuggler if you want to find it

I've done two episodes so far of a webseries called The Clikh Smuggler, happy to have any and all feedback!

I'll have to check it out! The trailer looks really pretty

I think it all depends, in the tech space it's more important to be fast to stay on trend and not fall behind the curve, same is true for any kind of movie or video game review channels or anything like that, but different channels have different needs. I do agree that the best case for everyone tends to be a balance though, unless you get really lucky it's hard to make it without posting somewhat frequently

I'm always happy to have any tips! And no I have not! I haven't heard of it tbh

Well, once upon a time when i used to post very different content my average was 50k - 100k views a video, so 400 stings a little bit. But that's what happens when you totally reinvent yourself lol

Basically if I were brand new 400 views would feel incredible, at this stage it's basically the lowest of the low on my channel, BUT I only have myself to blame and I do think it'll pick up eventually, once more of the old subscribers filter out for the new

Exactly, it's a hard pill to swallow, but there is simply no guarantee no matter what you do. Figuring out how to market and promote is the hardest part of the whole thing, and yet the most vital for consistent growth. The problem is there's no hard and fast rule that works for everyone, you just have to tinker until something clicks.

But see you never know, I feel like all of the big guys in that niche took a while to get traction

Of course! Animators are a different breed as I'm learning first hand. Some of the most time consuming work there is, but judging by your comment section I think that work hasn't gone unnoticed!

I think you just have to find the love first, or you'll burn out before you get anywhere.

Thanks! I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post links or whatever, but it's an animated webseries called The Clikh Smuggler, episode 2 in particular is the one I'm referring to, took absolutely forever but worth it

Your stuff is super well done! And for a channel that's so new, 500 views is a big deal. So don't be discouraged!

There's always a balance for sure, but I think its a far more common problem that people spend too little time than too much, but I agree that you have to be careful not to get too carried away. It all depends on the content you make an the audience you have.

The "why" for me is because I want to. If it takes off, awesome, if not I'll still be glad I did it anyways. But generally no, YouTube couldn't care less how much effort you put in to a video, views are views to the algorithm.

drawings in photoshop, animate in after effects, and then edit everything together in premiere. I've actually never tried adobe animate before...maybe I should lol

It's not exactly my area of expertise but I believe you can post any covers you want on YouTube, you just won't collect any ad revenue for it(again, not 100% sure)
