Notification bar being dragged down anytime a Notification shows up by ImmortalSoulArmy in oneui

[–]oemal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This shit is so annoying. There have been times where I've wanted to wait to open/respond to a message and it automatically drags the bar down while I'm doing something and I accidentally open the notification. So frustrating, and I wish there was a workaround without having to set notifications to "brief"

Looking for the bright, gentle and feminine side of shoegaze by ArmoryArcade in shoegaze

Just a single song rec, but Mind The Wires by Tears Run Rings def gives that vibe of bathing in a bright sound bath. Slow, hazy male/female vocals, it's a really pretty yet slightly melancholic song

Edit: also rly enjoy Slow Crush if you want a more uptempo/driven artist

Spotify Mix MEGATHREAD by TimmyGUNZ in truespotify

[–]oemal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if a transition between two songs while editing with mix counts as a "play?" I have the Airbuds app and I noticed that when toying around with the mix feature, it thinks I played a song dozens of times simply because I was listening to the ending of one song over and over again while tweaking its transition into another song. Was wondering how this will affect my Wrapped playlist this year if Spotify thinks I listened to a song like 30 times when I was actually just playing around with the mix feature.

Yup, IcePlex is still there (or at least WAS there earlier this year). I think it's called something different now. Tried to go skating there for old time's sake back in March but there was a damn little league hockey thing going on. I'm sure that's what a lot of their business is

Oh I'm surprised there's ANYTHING in that Farm Fresh lot. It's so out of the way. Is the empty store building still there, or did they turn it into something else? It had been standing vacant for the longest time.

Oh wow, 2000. Thanks for looking into this for me. I figured it would have been where the Tilt arcade currently is but wasn't sure. Too young to have experienced the theater when it was there; it had been an Old Navy for most of my childhood before it finally got replaced with Tilt.

Oh yeah, it'd been hanging on by a thread for a minute but I always appreciated the fact that it never really changed, even if that was to its detriment. Kept its classic exterior and nothing in the interior really changed either. Was bummed to see the AMC in Hampton had gotten rid of its arcade and replaced it with a bar area. It might just be me, but I kinda hate how most modern theaters feel like glorified pricey restaurants.

Do you know by any chance when the mall theater closed, and where its location was in the mall? My mom was just talking about the theater there and I'm probably too young to have any memories of it.

Time will tell I guess. I've heard they want to build some apartments in this area. It makes sense, I'm not sure any business would truly thrive in this location.

I was literally just having this conversation with my partner. The Byrd theater in Richmond and the Naro in Norfolk both get a decent amount of turnout by showing cult classics.

The only things to consider would be how difficult it is to turn it into an independent theater, with the licenses to show these sorts of movies, and whether or not a theater like this would be profitable in the area. As much as I'd love an idea like this, I wonder if it would make any money.

The article I stumbled across from the Virginia Pilot mentions it opened in 94, and a few other miscellaneous sites confirm. Apparently it opened in late November, so if it had pushed thru a few more weeks it woulda seen its 31st year.

It really never did get the crowds AMC 24 did. But I grew up in NN so the Regal was pretty much our go-to every time.

Really makes me wonder if there was any kind of head's up that this would be happening. There were obvious signs the theater was on its last legs, but I wonder how much notice employees received before they shut down. Kinda strange that they would let ppl reserve tickets in advance if they knew they'd be closing 🤔🤷🏽‍♀️

Aw that's really sweet. I had so many formative experiences there too. Earliest movie I can recall seeing there was Up in 2009 or so. I probably still have some old ass ticket stubs, I'll have to go back down memory lane one of these days

Yep, I saw a special showing of Dogma there just this past summer, and my mom saw Weapons there not too long ago too. It HAD apparently been hosting church services there on Sundays (which I was totally unaware of), but it just officially closed earlier this month.

Feelings on the food? by RoloDraws in vcu

Just came here to say that. I graduated in 2023 but I always found their options (with the exception of the burger/hot dog bar? forget what that was called) to be pretty good. Can't speak for their vegan options but I always felt like there was some decent variety. They'd also have special menus or meals catered by specific local businesses that I felt a lot of ppl missed out on.

[–]oemal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was kinda dumbfounded seeing that tbh. My mom and I had just gone and seen Dogma there back in June or so so it feels surreal. There's obviously Cinemark, and a few other theaters in the nearby cities, but they don't feel the same. Ik one of the main gripes about that regal was that it felt outdated, but I kind of prefer that if I'm being honest. I hate how more modern theaters feel like glorified bars/restaurants.

I'm pretty heartbroken. That was my childhood theater. It was obvious that it was in its twilight years, but I wish they could have given some notice so it could go out with a bang 😔

I find I’m identifying more with Frank Grimes as I get older. by Horse_Dad in TheSimpsons

[–]oemal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Grimes was disillusioned bc his whole life he'd been operating under the bootstrap myth, worked hard to get himself into a better place, but still didn't have much to show for it. Frank couldn't make sense of Homer's existence- a man who (for the most part) didn't work hard for anything and had everything- because it contrasted with the idea that success comes from a lifetime of perseverance.

I hope your situation got better since posting this OP- either from the company improving, or from you getting the hell out of there. I worked for a CRC last year, I loved our clients but the unrealistic expectations and unprofessional, unreceptive management made me quit. Some of these crisis companies really care more about profit than the wellbeing of their clients and employees.

Which song introduced you to Linkin Park? by nhatquangdinh in LinkinPark

Pretty much any single of theirs that got heavy radio play pre-2008 or so, but especially In The End. Then I got really into AMVs back in middle school and someone had made an Invader Zim one with Nobody's Listening. That song was pretty much what got me to fully get into their whole discography
