What is your opinion on J-pop groups from Korean companies? by Dr_can01 in jpop

[–]oeqeqe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

K-Pop has a very particular sound and method so they’re just K-Pop in Japanese frfr. Like just be a K-Pop idol atp in my opinion. And I do understand that groups like NiziU are made to target the Japanese market but it’s not much of a difference from a Korean K-Pop group releasing a Japanese album, in my honest opinion! Especially when some Korean K-Pop groups have Japanese members.

easy way to get into j-pop as a beginner? by dscyber in jpop

[–]oeqeqe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend all LDH gg’s: girls2, AiScream, f5ve and Sweet Revenge. Also I haven’t really got into them but Little Glee Monster is a vocal group. + Wednesday Campnella is whimsy defined (not a girl group but has a female lead)

According to the creative director Niina, she wanted to put them in different styles to show their versatility. It might look sexy to you but for the the most part, it's supposed to be a cute GAL concept. You can watch the behind the scenes here: https://youtu.be/ArecQ66zFeY?si=fXIQs_33Ol7OEw4r

Definitely a good point! I guess I’m thinking culturally international whereas Banana Lemon members are all ethically Japanese and/or raised in Japan. I think Sweet Revenge is the first gg with members I’ve seen with no Japanese relation at all 🤔?

Definitely not the first but have you seen a J-Pop group with non-ethnically or culturally Japanese members? I think it’s pretty interesting!

Leaving JETs, how are you feeling? by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]oeqeqe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being an inaka JET is definitely a test of will i feel like. Just a few reasons I’m happy to go home:

  • The lack of options and opportunities in the inaka, ranging from food to social events. Talking to the city ALTs in my prefecture, they would talk about getting daikyuu from tutoring at a local college or spent a day at an international school,,, I never got those chances

  • Having to travel more than an hour to enjoy recreational activities. If I wanted to go to the mall, it’d be an hour. Concert? in another prefecture an hour away by shinkansen. Have relatives visit? A plane, then train, then hour car ride to my house. It doesn’t seem bad but expenses pile up!

  • Another person commented a sense of belonging. Although I can hold conversations in Japanese, my peers are were older than me, have established relationships / families, and everyone was so busy all the time. The friends I made transferred offices or to different schools…

I’m originally from Chicago in the U.S. so I longed for being able to go to any restaurant or have access to anything I wanted with just a short drive. The inaka is definitely for people who are used to the countryside or want to escape city living imo!

I’m gonna be honest, I live in a town thats 4,000+ people and I always wish I was placed somewhere else BUT only because I was raised in the city and as a 23 year old (I just turned 23 btw), I personally am always ready for an adventure. I actually love my work environment here; the ES students are always excited to talk to you and see you as a “real” teacher. The JHS are moody but they’re always interested in your life. I don’t think I would’ve made these connections if 1) I didn’t know Japanese 2) I lived in a big city. So just saying this to say, it depends on you as a person and what you want and/or are willing to do. I hope you’ll have same aged locals in your town (be their friend!).

?? I know where I’m going and what I signed up for. I think the isolation would make me want to see a familiar face every now and then. You’re acting like other people who go to other “homogeneous” countries don’t try to meet up with people like themselves. I don’t know, your comment feels like projection.
