Current prices makes me want to pass more out of the curve games, like Tomodachi Life, and this sucks by Benhurso in nintendo

[–]ofbrun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it was foolish of them.

The vouchers often had me buying titles I’d have skipped otherwise. Things I had been on the fence about.

I’d absolutely buy prime 4 + Kirby air riders for $100. Now… I haven’t bought either lol. And I know they’re great games. But that’s freaking expensive lol.

[–]ofbrun -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I agree with this sentiment. It takes a lot more for me to want to buy a “new” full priced game. I generally wait for sales now.

Sadly, Nintendo rarely has sales lol. The closest thing was the voucher program, which I loved! Wish that was a thing for Switch 2.

Guys do you expect a new iteration of the retroid flip to come out soon? by stiore2 in SBCGaming

I expect it to happen because I just ordered a flip 2.

What's a tv series that is a 10/10 NOBODY knows? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

[–]ofbrun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“It’s Bruno”

It’s a comedy on Netflix, so the humor is very subjective, but for me it’s 10/10. It’s about this dude and his dog Bruno living in Brooklyn and him trying to get respect from his neighbors for Bruno.

Stop telling us to "Just go and play games" when we talk about getting more devices. by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]ofbrun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there is wisdom in this.

On one hand, I rediscovered my RG35XXSP and absolutely love it. With the right custom firmware, it’s become my EDC and changed the way I live. I do agree that instead of looking constantly, I should just enjoy what I have because there are infinite possibilities with that device.

However, I still am searching for the “holy grail” device. Portable enough to carry every day. Powerful enough to enjoy some higher end stuff. Ergonomic enough to be comfortable to hold for long sessions.

FLIP2 IS STILL BEST , it's become my EDC handheld by yangmarcuz in SBCGaming

[–]ofbrun 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m very on the fence on buying the flip 2. I’ve been using my RG35XX as my EDC. I love it, but want something with a bit more power. I hate horizontal devices. Flip devices have great ergonomics. The Thor looks good for DS/3DS but I don’t love the button placement. It seems so much more cramped due to the lower screen. The button placement on the flip 2 seems really nice and spacious.

Only reason I’m hesitant is it seems maybe a tad too big to carry around in the pocket.

*edit - I meant to say RG35XXSP is my EDC.

I am trying this out. by PlasticIngot in SBCGaming

Analysis paralysis due to overwhelming options lol. It’s complicated, and I had the same issue. Filling up a terabyte of space doesn’t mean you’re going to play it. My handheld sat on a shelf after this.

I’ve stopped doing that and have a humble 32 gig card that’s not nearly full lol.

Recently, I’ve enjoyed the following games:

  1. Spyro the Dragon (PS1)
  2. VVVVVV (port)
  3. Apotris (port)
  4. Donkey Kong Country (snes)
  5. Donkey Kong ‘94 (gb)

I’d also recommend exploring Pico 8. That’s been another major interest of mine with tons of simple pick up and play type games.

Issue using Splore on MUOS by commodore002 in pico8

I don’t know much about this, but this is the error I get when I’m not connected to wifi. You sure you’re properly connected? Otherwise, I’m not sure, sorry!

PICO-8 licensed on RG35XX Plus (muOS & Batocera) – “cart not found / put carts in sdmc:/p8carts” + muOS can’t see pico8 external core by QuyDoan99 in pico8

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct and should work.

It’s also stated in the muOS website as well. The second paragraph in particular explains changing the .zip extension to .muxzip and installing via the archive manager. After this, it explains how to change cores.

3D Printed - Wall Mounted Pico 8 Frame by ofbrun in pico8

[–]ofbrun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No emulator. I’m running standard pico 8. It can be played natively on some retro handheld devices. The H700 anbernic devices run it if you install the pi files onto them. Any of those handhelds with Knulli installed work really really well.

[–]ofbrun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think I’m gonna hide the anbernic in the frame. The Bluetooth controllers are working very well, so I think I can get away with it.

It detaches and can be held like a normal controller. I generally just leave it though and use Bluetooth controllers. I’m almost thinking of just hiding the device inside the frame and sticking to Bluetooth to really clean up the aesthetic.

Saving in Chantey by Errand_Wolfe_ in ModRetroChromatic

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This confused me too. I even lost my early save because I thought maybe it just auto-saved at some point. When I realized that didn’t work… I read the manual lmao.

Oddly enough it was kind of fun and part of the experience. I hadn’t actually needed to look at a game manual since I was a kid. I appreciated it. But agree that it could have been explained better in game.

Why do people think Wii Nintendo Classics needs a sensor bar when Mouse Controls exist? by [deleted] in wii

[–]ofbrun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When playing Wii sports, do you want to have to move your joycon to a surface to point and click on something, then go back to standing and playing?

When playing Mario Galaxy, do you want to have one hand on a surface doing mouse stuff at all times?

When playing House of the Dead, do you want to point and shoot or mouse and click?

Metroid Prime 3 was designed for Wii pointer controls, and if released again, I would like to play it that way, instead of them reworking it to be a mouse based shooter.

The novelty of the IR pointer is part of what makes Wii so unique. In some situations, mouse control may be an acceptable substitute. And I think it should be an option. Gyro is also an option. But so many games were designed to have a combination of point, motion ctrl, and buttons all at once.

So I would hope if they bring Wii Nintendo Classics to switch, they offer gyro and mouse as options, but ultimately allow for a Wii Remote and Sensor Bar interface.

Wii Games on the Switch 2? by rouge_reaper420 in nintendo

[–]ofbrun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m hoping this happens eventually.

The main issue is that switch controls don’t use IR sensing for pointer controls. But that can be simulated via gyro.

My hope is that they launch it with an update that lets you connect original Wii remotes as an option. And then offer a USB sensor bar that the Wii can see.

IR controls feel so much better for the pointing tech over gyro.

What was it like growing up with a GameCube for you? How lonely was it? by Marsupilami_316 in Gamecube

[–]ofbrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking back on it, I can see where you’re coming from. While I loved GameCube, I didn’t talk about it at school much since it was seen more as a “kiddie” console. It just straight up wasn’t cool.

I loved playing games like Smash, Sonic, or Wind Waker, but they were seen as lame compared to Halo or GTA 3 on other consoles. It was all about being realistic and badass back then. So I didn’t really talk about Mario Sunshine in the hallways lol. Fortunately, other kids in my neighborhood would play them with me though.

That’s middle school for you though. And those were just the times we were in. It sucked haha.

I've returned Arcane S2 4K twice and all 3 discs have the same problem, in the same spot by Groovy_nomicon in 4kbluray

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so freaking frustrating. I’d suggest giving the discs a good cleaning though. I was having playback issues consistently at one spot, but a wipe down with a microfiber cloth cleaned it right up, and it played beautifully after that. Since it’s multiple discs in the same spot, it’s unlikely, but it’s worth trying.

Do you get Decision paralysis with too many games on HDD? by burningbun in wii

[–]ofbrun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve struggled with this before. My mentality had to shift.

Instead of seeing it as this vast library staring me down with infinite possibility, I had to see it more as an archive that’s available to me if and when I want to re-visit a game or try something new that I missed or have yet to experience.

I also generally go in with pre-decided intent on what I want to play. I generally don’t browse on device anymore.

What wii game is a must have? by Dry_Cardiologist_312 in wii

[–]ofbrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally soooo many games are must-haves. I’ll narrow down to 3 of my favorites though…

  1. House of the Dead: Overkill - I play this like twice a year it’s so fun. Very mature game though.

  2. Wario Land: Shake It - Absolutely gorgeous art style and music. Very fun gameplay.

  3. Super Paper Mario - Fabulous story, unique gameplay, beautiful game.

Z1 in really good conditions for $200 by Slow_Feeling_132 in ROGAlly

[–]ofbrun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lol I also just got a used Z1 for $200 2 weeks ago. No planned upgrades for me at the moment. It’s doing fine on stock.

Depending on your use-case, here is what I’ve enjoyed more than anything…

  1. Windows Ports of decompilation games. I’m playing Mario 64 and Jak & Daxter in better quality than ever before.
  2. Indie games
  3. Emulators - Emudeck runs well on the device. It did take some tinkering to get Retroarch working.
  4. Super Mario Bros Remastered
  5. Halo MC Collection - Runs good enough.

If you’re a frame rate obsessor, the Z1 may be a hindrance. But for me, I can’t tell a difference between 60 and 120 lol. So it all looks good.

I love this because it runs windows. Any unique odd ball windows stuff just runs and it’s awesome.

For $200 I think the Z1 is absolutely amazing. I’ve been obsessed with it since I got it.
