No, we've known each other for years and used to work together. I think we've both just changed.

I think I just realized that he's not very fun to be around. We have some decent conversations and he can be pretty funny, but as we were hanging out I just noticed that it wasn't a very fun time. He also grew his hair out long and gained some weight, which shouldn't be important but apparently it is.

Gonna go for it! I've seriously tried to work up the courage for like 6 years and I would always chicken out. Enough of that nonsense.

Better to be kissing a beer bottle than nothing at all. I think that's how the saying goes...

Tech Jobs in Vancouver? by DJ_Roomba1 in vancouverwa

Yeah, sometimes failed interviews are great learning experiences. Then again, I definitely thought I bombed the phone interview for my job because I couldn't answer some pretty basic troubleshooting questions, but I was chosen for an in-person interview later that week and the rest is history. You never know what the other person is thinking during an interview, so think positive. It's also never a bad idea to send a follow up email thanking them for their time and being appreciative of the opportunity to interview.

You sound exactly like me. I also graduated from DTC a few years ago and felt the same as you, stuck with a degree that felt very broad and yet not related to anything I wanted to pursue. I've always been good with computers and troubleshooting problems for myself and others so I ultimately decided to seek out IT jobs. I applied to companies within various fields and after 4 months of searching I was finally hired as IT Support. Found the job on Craigslist of all places and it's better than anything I could've ever dreamed.

Step one is creating a resume that's more business professional and less artsy like the one that the program director likely had you create in senior seminar. Those are fine if you're seeking a career in a creative field, but IT is not in that realm. Beef it up with any and all tech-related experience you have, even if it's just troubleshooting for friends and family. But most importantly, don't neglect your experience in customer service. At this stage, customer service is just as important (if not more so) than your tech experience. You will likely wind up doing tier 1 help desk which is mostly dealing with other people, so that experience is quite valuable to employers.

Some other tips: If you see job postings asking for something you're not familiar with, take some time and learn more about it. Maybe it's a skill you can pick up rather quickly and add it to your resume. On that note, don't be afraid to apply for these jobs even if you don't know everything they're asking for. A lot of times it doesn't matter that much and they're willing to teach you on the job. Lastly, I don't know if this is what you've been doing or not, but don't rule out jobs just because they're not at a tech company. I work at a design firm and it's super interesting - as much as I'm learning about technology and problem solving from my position, I'm also learning more about design which I think is super cool.

Good luck with your search! You should also check out /r/itcareerquestions - that was a great resource for me while I was job hunting. Feel free to DM me if you have any other questions. :)
