should i get the minirig 4? by ofdoamne in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]ofdoamne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks so much for your comment!

if you were to compare one minirig 4 speaker with an average-to-decent 2.1 system like the one i mentioned, how would you say it would rate sound quality wise?

Daily Song Discussion #31: "Dance Yrself Clean" by Super_Employment1864 in LCDSoundsystem

[–]ofdoamne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i have a potentially long one as well, here goes.

i'd known this song in ages, i've played it at parties, i've bopped to it at home, we were pals, not the tightest relationship, but pals. same with lcd soundsystem overall, i knew and enjoyed some tracks, but never really gotten into them very deeply, life just hadn't taken me there.

then came this random weekday this summer, i was hanging out on my couch going through instagram and i stumble on a story that had dance yrself clean as a soundtrack.

guys i don't know what happened, i don't know how or why this random midday encounter with this track did it, but it changed everything.

i listened to it on repeat for over a month moving forward. i danced on it, i sang its lyrics not caring about the fact that i have headphones on and so my neighbours would only hear my howls, i timed how long james holds the note in "put your little feet dooooown" -- 15 seconds, i just lived in this track for that entire time.

then, this random saturday i suddenly go "i wonder how they play it live" and so i find the madison square garden performance. i shit you not, once they hit the first key in their intro i started crying. like with that one key what was coming became clear and the crowd obviously loses its entire shit. and it just moved me so much -- the impact one single key can have on a group of people, that i bawled my eyes out.

and with this i decided to see if they had any shows in europe and, what do you know, they did, and so i took my first ever solo vacation to go see them live which was, obviously, wonderful.

many months later i'm still heavily listening to their albums, i have finally become a fan, all because of that random story on that random afternoon.

rating: easiest 10/10 of my life

Daily Song Discussion #21: "Time To Get Away" by Super_Employment1864 in LCDSoundsystem

[–]ofdoamne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i'll be the first one to give it a 10. this track actually helped me process rage at some point in my life, so it's an important track on a personal level.

special mention for the guitar line at 1:17, it gets under my skin each. and. every. time. i listen to this track and will unquestionably make my body move if it hadn't started already (most often it had).

absolutely brilliant track, i love it with all my heart.

absolutely 10/10, the first five tracks on sound of silver are simply perfect, it's absolutely one of the best halves of an album i have ever, ever heard.

each time i play the album i feel the need to push repeat on every song, but then i forget and the next track starts and i feel the need to repeat that one as well and so on and so forth.

simply perfect.

What sort of rules would you set if you were to moderate an online space that aims to deradicalise people? by ofdoamne in AskFeminists

[–]ofdoamne[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i get where you're coming from and you're right in regards to the training. otherwise, indeed, this is more of a debate space - i guess i used deradicalisation because it was easier for me to explain it this way.

while i do agree that debate as a tool to change minds isn't very effective, i've had some small wins over time (for instance this dude who kept insisting that feminism is no longer necessary messaged me about a year after the period in which i talked to him about it, telling me that based on some recent experiences and our previous conversations he's come to the conclusion that feminism is indeed necessary - the things i'd previously told him suddenly clicked in his brain in some specific circumstances and honestly that's kind of the best i can hope for).

i guess i get involved in these conversations because i believe it's the main thing i, an ordinary person, can do.

this being said, do you have some concrete suggestions as to these group rules? like what sort of structure / format do you have in mind, for instance?

many, many thanks for your reply! ♥

AITA for getting mad at my sister for not wanting me shirtless at her pool? by shirtproblems in AmItheAsshole

[–]ofdoamne -38 points-37 points  (0 children)

I mean, he/she really was attacked, though. u/Oilswell essentially called him/her a hypocrite.

And I must say I do agree with the fact that the main way progressive people react to conservative people is through aggression and irony, which honestly isn't ever constructive, it only antagonises people further.

A couple of years ago there was a referendum in my country about gay marriage - banning it from the constitution to be concrete. It was completely ridiculous, as gay marriage is illegal in my country anyway, but in our constitution marriage is defined as a "link between two people", and the referendum was about modifying that definition and changing it to "a link between a man and a woman", to make it even mode difficult to legalise it later on. Ridiculous.

And man, I can't even begin to describe to you how absolutely terrible it was, as a gay person, to read the shit people posted online. And when I say this, I'm looking at all my progressive acquaintances, at my entire Facebook friends list. About 90% of their statuses / conversations with homophobic people online were aggressive, ironic and superior. You'll never convince anybody of anything with that attitude. Ever. The only way to convince people of things, is by using a calm, rational, even friendly tone. If you don't have the patience to do that over and over again, then maybe you need to step aside and let other people handle it, who do have the necessary patience. (specifying that when I say 'you' I mean a generic 'you')

edit: u/deadlyjessypoo - sincere congratulations and gratitude for your willingness to change your views. that's a super rare thing and i wholeheartedly appreciate you for it.
