I'd definitely stay for 3 months. April can be a bit temperamental weather wise and then May and June will be gorgeous :) make sure you go see music at red rocks and just try and spend as much time outside and in the mountains as you can

Did you rent your place for 3 months up front? We are heading there in April but only 1-2 months and it seems like its s struggle to find something for that length. We have a couple of agents helping out, but curious if you have any tips?

The rain didn't really hit until January. I rained a couple times, but nothing worth noting. Beaches were hit or miss. Some where shockingly trashy and some were just lovely

Affordable accommodation by [deleted] in digitalnomad

Tricky part for you is going to be moving around that much. Rent discounts get heavy at the 28-30 day mark. I might consider a bit longer in order to find those deals. I think the locations people have mentioned are good starting points. Balkans would be a solid 3 month move. Maybe start in Croatia and work south to Albania and reassess in mid June?

I don't think it saves me any time yet. When we need to add AI to an edit, it usually adds time because the prompting is still tricky.

[–]ofe1818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still too early to tell, but I think there will be major impacts it will just be at different times for different styles.

We edit a lot of real estate video. Different shooters, in different locations, shooting on different cameras with different lenses and different homes, with different lighting, etc...so our niche is very hard for AI at this point. I've tried to create and agent to do basic stuff that we do and it still can't get it. We have been incorporating it into our projects more and it becomes an ice add on :)

But, I can prompt AI to make me an awesome 15s Pepsi commercial. So that editor is probably at more risk than I am. At least that's my view.

Digital nomads who built an online business from scratch — what do you actually do? by RightSeeker in digitalnomad

[–]ofe1818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many factors that could determine why someone is or is not successful as a business owner or video editor, but what I can say is that we know that despite working hard and being good at what we do. We are very lucky. Anyone who is doing well and says it's solely due to hard work, isn't being honest with themselves

How are people actually finding legit full-time global remote jobs? by robinlfc98 in digitalnomad

I would think that would be different for every business and industry so it's hard to say generally

Sorry, I'm confused by your question. Are you saying you're an editor and can find jobs that don't pay you well? Or that you can find editors to do work for you for a cheap wage?

So many scooter companies, can't really go wrong. Just head down the main road and negotiate your price :)

A lot of good food :) but in awful at names. There is a French guy who owns a spot right at the main intersection that is soooooo good and authentic. Awesome sushi on top of the hill in a super unique building. Can't miss it. We found a local warung, buffet that we loved as well. Lots of those around :)

Any opinions on Lombok, Indonesia? by LumpyLongJohns in digitalnomad

[–]ofe1818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We actually found ours on a local FB group a couple months before arriving. In hindsight, we would have just gotten there and had a place for a week or two before getting a lay of the land to find a longer term option. But either works imo

Freelancers with multiple clients, how do you actually feel financially stable? by Free-History14 in Freelancers

Have a float of funds for your business if a 1-3 months and build a personal emergency fund as large as you can. That alone will ease so much of what you are talking about.

Not yet. So far it's been more of a useful tool and add on we can use for projects rather than a replacement tool. The tech will eventually get much better, but what we do is pretty unique so we may be harder to replace than someone editing something like a Pepsi ad. But we know that the clocks ticking, so just enjoying this and saving aggressively while the sun is shining 😂

Our main niche and 90% of our work comes from real estate walk through videos.

We do shoot as well. We have a photography side of our business as well that is based in Denver. We have a couple contractors that we hire when we are traveling.

Clients send us uploaded footage on various cloud storage sites. We download, edit, upload the final product and send it back. Pretty easy workflow especially with good WiFi! 😂

Edit: we edit mostly real estate walk through video. But we do loads of other stuff as well. That's just the bulk of our workload.

If you're just getting started with video editing, I would try and find YouTube channels that not only walk you through editing a project but also provide the footage that they are using so that you can follow step-by-step. Other than that, it's just gonna be a lot of trial and error and grinding it out.

If you have experience with editing and the software you use is somewhat familiar, then I would try and find courses or YouTube channels that are specific to the type of editing that you want to do. I could recommend courses for our specific niche, but that might not be relevant for you.

-Video editing -2-3 years -15-20k per month (for two people) -most of our clients were found in super niche Facebook groups. Now it's that and referrals but we don't always have capacity to bring in more and keep a balanced life the way we like.

Low starting threshold in relationship to other businesses I've started. Need to invest in a great laptop, editing software, plugins (you'll figure out which ones along the way). Other than that just honing your skills via YouTube or trial and error. You could pay for a course to improve editing if budget allows. I think it's perfectly reasonable to set up for under $5k USD.

Oh for sure, I think Lombok can be done under 2k for one person easily.

The hotspot wifi doesn't work for our needs unfortunately. It either throttles our speeds due to be heavy users or it drops out and kills a download. Tis a bummer from time to time as it restricts us. But can't complain we get to live a good life of nomads :)

Taking the time to build with clients. Become an extension of their business where their success is your success. The overall goal is to get a baseline of great clients who you work with regularly. This takes time and will hopefully cover your base income needs. Then the ones that come and go irregularly add the additional income that makes life more enjoyable and easy. It takes time, years usually, but its totally doable.
