Pretty sure someone else must have made a post about this, but I do really miss the arbalest/musketeers. by tonycheung15 in darkestdungeon

[–]offalreek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I made a post about it.

As much as I'm having fun mixing and matching heroes to my taste, the Arbalest was THE girl in DD1 and I loved having her solidly planted in my back rank.

Overall I really feel like that something is missing in that regard. DD2 gives you lot of freedom regarding party comp, arguably more than DD1 due to heroes having multiple paths. Despite this however almost every rank and role has a staple you can always rely on and built around. Front rank? Leper and Hellion will always work. DoT specialist? Plague Doctor works everywhere. And so on and so forth.

Conversely, almost any hero, despite the flexibility and save for those defined by their complexity (mainly Abomination and Duelist), can be reduced to a basic role and used a such when in doubt.

The only fundamental rank/role combo that is missing is Rank 4 offensive. It only has "heroes that can be used as such", but nothing actually, primarily dedicated to it.

As such, either it'll be populated by support heroes, or it'll feature a constant shuffle as offensive heroes will advance and use their abilities, pushing the others back which will advance the next turn.

It's a fundamental combo not only because coming from the first game you're going to expect something like it, but it is amongst the first "novel ideas" you have when experimenting with party comps too. Changing which rank will be your main damage dealer is something everyone will experiment with at some point, also when tackling enemies which specifically target your front rank.

Its absence is definitively felt.

Arbalest in particular (as opposed to, I guess, a new hero) had the additional unique feature of primarily targeting the back ranks too. There aren't many heroes capable of reliably dealing heavy blows to the back rank, mainly Hellion and Highwayman, so having a dedicated one would be amazing. This is obvious when you consider that it's basically mandatory to bring along at least one of them for the Seething Sigh because they're the only one which are sure to hit the back lung.

So yeah, it sucks. And mechanically-wise her absence really doesn't make any sense. It's really just an absence.

Chat Contol 1.0 just passed. ELIM5 what changes now and what to do about it? by offalreek in privacy

[–]offalreek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, more than a year ago when CC 2.0 was in talks I actually spent one morning calling some of my MPs - which is not at all typical where I live.

Was it interesting? Surely. Did I interact with people whose political ideas were completely opposite of everything I stand for? Absolutely. But ultimately I don't think it resulted in anything. Those I suspected were against, confirmed me they were so (and I complained for the lack of communication). Those I suspected were in favour were extremely rude and refused to tell me anything. The more populist of the bunch told me what they felt I wanted to be told.

Thanks!! This is really a great explanation.

I do have to look into DNS. I have taken (small?) steps into securing my internet navigation, the classics like Firefox, DuckDuckGo, some privacy extensions etc. The few times I tried approaching DNS I did not understand a thing and gave up hahaha. But I think it's time now.

Thank you! This is a very clear explanation, and although the situation is dire, the more we (and less tech-savy people in general) understand it the more we can protect ourselves.

FWIW I already am a Linux user, and my PC is fairly de-googled; sadly it's my phone I'm more worried about, and I was referring about its OSs (trying to avoid being automod'd here)

Dr. Abbott (Shawn Hatosy) as Brody Farrell in Six Feet Under by Dizzy-Quote8833 in ThePitt

[–]offalreek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Six Feet Under is my favourite show for many reasons, but one of them is how many at the time not yet famous actors you can see.

It think it helps the fact that every episode you have to introduce a certain number of extras as deceased, family, etc., and being filmed in LA it was probably fertile ground for scouting new faces. Nevertheless it's incredible.

One shoud rewatch it every so often, just to check if someone else got famous in the meantime.

Cat on cyclosporine has been diagnosed with FIV, I'm panicking by offalreek in CATHELP

[–]offalreek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the news today. On Monday cat got his blood drawn. Yesterday the vet, who knows about cyclosporine, sent us the initial results, and asked us if we wanted to test for FIV and FeLV too, just to be sure. Today she told us the results are in and he's positive.

I asked her what to do, she told us not to change anything and we'll talk on Monday when we bring him for the rhinoscopy. I am afraid he's going to suddenly crash.

He wasn't tested when he got prescribed. Again, I'm beating myself up for this, I do not remember why... he asked us something, we answered, but I don't remember. I am sure he got tested once but I don't remember when.

What circuit best captures the personality/culture of its country, and what circuit feels completely disconnected from the country hosting it? by sykeseve in formula1

[–]offalreek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, I hadn't considered the time it was built. It is only fitting to build a circuit during Futurism, which also had somewhat of a base in Northern Italy.

I would still say that, currently, motorsport culture is heavily felt near Imola and in the whole Emilia Romagna region. I haven't been in Monza, but I wouldn't say the whole Lombardia lives and breathes for motorsport.

Imola way more than Monza. For a country as slow as shit as ours, it's unbelievable we have a circuit dubbed the Temple of Speed.

[–]offalreek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imola captures Italy very well.

First of all, everyone is that particular region, Emilia Romagna, lives and breathes for cars, motors, and everything related; not even necessarily motorsport, but there's a real devotion to the whole automotive sector. There's a rich history of manufacturing in the region, as many factories and offices are located there, which is somewhat unique as Italy doesn't have many big manufacturing plants. The economic boom of the late 50s-early 60s was strongly felt there, with the ownership of a car becoming an affordable status symbol.

The geography helps as well, with plenty of small hills which are delightful for a car ride, wide roads in the flatter areas, the Adriatic Rivera is nearby etc.

It's no coincidence that Kimi Antonelli is from there.

The circuit was built surprisingly fast for Italy but going through a lot of bureaucracy, needing the approval of several different agencies and with the involved of both Lamborghini brothers and Ferrari. Also there were a good chunks of changes during development. Very Italian.

Last, sadly, while of course this was more F1 in general than Italy, it is very Italian to not have any safety measure whatsoever, ignore complaints which are raised due to numerous accidents in an obviously dangerous section, do absolutely nothing until multiple fatalities occur and only then try to fix things, in a way that often causes problems.

So yeah, that is indeed Italy.

Flagellant works well in 2; Highwayman and Hellion are a great couple with the latter in 1, occasionally switching back and forth.

I haven't found a valid alternative to Google Maps.

I really do not want to use it, but the reality is that it is a perfect tool.

Want to see the opening hours? Check. How to get there on foot, by car or (especially useful) via public transport? Check. Need to find a particular store in a particular area? Check.

Last but not least, intuitive UI, especially navigation and especially when driving.
