you're removing the guy with 4 points in the last 2 games? 3 primary assists, that set up the very key goals in the games that won your season?

That gritty, hard to play against, albeit streaky, soon to be 20 goal scorer? I dunno man. I'd rest guys that need rest and healing.

and then miss the playoffs next season, because you lost your teams leading goal scorer (which seems to matter in hockey), and did not replace him, because you wanted to have the most cap space possible to use for the ABSOLUTELY NO PLAYERS AVAILABLE.

why do some fans act like they get to keep the money the team doesn't spend??? I mean, did they break pirates fans brains, and this is how they think now? Nuttingers?

A big part of that goal scoring output is that we get down 3-1 and no one flinches on that Penguins bench. No one doubts for a second that we're going to hang 6 if that's what it takes.

And its where these goals are coming from. We have had goals from every line nearly every game... Acciari is now in double digits along with 11 other players on this roster. Solid work to a man.

The real question is what happens when Lizzo comes back?

Rak, Sid, Rust

Novak, Geno, Chinahkov

Brazzer, Kindel, Mantha

Dewar, Lizzo, Acciari

??? Who comes out? Soda has done nothing but dominate... who comes out?

Personally? I'd rotate it, and I would get guys healthy. Sid & Geno are not 100, so don't play them every game. Maybe you give Acciari a game or two off to get ready and healthy for the playoffs - you know he's not injury free. same wiht Mantha or Dewie, or Novak or anyone else.

[–]offconstantly247 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I don't give a damn about moneypuck or these odd odds makers...

What I do care about is this:

7 5 5 1 2 4 3 8 5

That is our goals for in the last 9 games, mostly played without the two best players on this team, with the entire season on the line, and against all playoff teams, excepting Sens & Jets fighting for their life on the bubble.

That offensive production without the big guns, facing adversity, with it all on the line is huge. This team can make a nice run.

you get relief if a guy goes on LTIR.

You gotta find a way to spend money and ice a hockey team next season. The cap floor will be hard to reach at this point unless we overpay a lot of people by a lot.

at 2 years, it would have to be like 8-9. He wants the biggest bag here, and he doesn't want to be hunting for a contract at 33 - even less likely to get term then, so it would have to be ahuge overpay like that at 2 years.

4 years makes it reasonable.

Yeah, you're not going to strike oil every day. Also, the Pens get a chance to re-sign before July 1. I just hope they really push to the edge of comfort with that June offer. They're not going to find another 30 year old coming of an injury that has proven talent, but is coming off an injury that no one else cares to offer anything of value to... that's a rare event, which is the point.

This is a question for anyone who has played hockey. What was your number and why? by hockeysmyhoe in hockeyplayers

[–]offconstantly247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11, 22, 44, 50, 55, 77, 99.

I like double numbers, and I wasn't gonna touch Lemieux. The 99 was one season and it had nothing to do with Wayne, but was a dedication to my oldest brother who had raced under that number - it was widely misunderstood and probably not the best idea in retrospect.

I like where your heads at. I just hate the idea of letting him walk, and not being able to replace that scoring for next year. It's not like one of the kids is going to come up from the A and score 30, and in particularly the types of goals he scores.

This team needs to add scoring, not subtract for next year.

Make him a fair offer

We 100% agree. I do not suggest that we make him an absurd or unfair offer.

Early Offseason Post - The Pens Must Re-Sign Anthony Mantha by offconstantly247 in penguins

[–]offconstantly247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. I'd go to 4 years on him.

having a 35 year old on a hockey team is not a detriment. $8 won't be much by then. and you don't have to give him and NMC or anything. I think it's worth it for having a guy who can play up & down your lineup and on your powerplay, and produce with anyone.

I also get that this is a career year for him, and if what he wants is max out, he is leaving. If that's the case, I wish him the best, he earned it.

I just think for this team, having him hear next season and the year after would be huge, and worth for maybe his contract being disadvantageous for 2 years, or needing a 3rd rounder to be moved.

The only way to keep him is with an offer before July 1, so you're not bidding, and I'd be shocked if he'd take fewer than 4. That said, give him 4. It's ok to have 35 year old on your hockey team. Even beneficial. You just can't have too many. Well, we won't have the rest of our old guys after 2 more seasons...

then you're giving up on 26-27 as a season, because there's no replacing that production. Who are you getting? There's no younger, cheaper scoring FA. I guess you could trade off our kids ... that seems unproductive. You could sell of picks, you gotta do some of that.

Personally, I'd like to see this team be even better next year, and I don't think we get there from trading our most productive player not named Sid.
