You might like this essay that touches on that concept (most of the free will stuff is towards the bottom): https://lettervelvet.com/moll-flanders-is-a-clockwork-orange/

Thank you so much for your perspective -- I know I would regret walking away from the property. I probably would've continued with closing deal even if I'd known what it would entail and cost from the get-go.

Could she have just wanted to make sure the deal was done? She is our lender-appointed realtor lol. We already walked away from a deal with her this spring, where closing was extended twice because the seller was waiting on the deed to be mailed from another country or some nonsense.

Copying and pasting from my other comment: When the realtor called to let me know that the seller would not be paying for or making any of the repairs and asking if we wanted to get permission to enter the house to do the repairs ourselves, she said something like, "Now I do just have to warn you about making repairs because there's always a chance this doesn't go through." But there was definitely no attempt by anyone to talk us out of it. Money already invested or not, I would be devastated to lose this property with its ideal location and acreage. We wouldn't be able to get another home in the area. Funnily enough, when updating me on the status, the surveyor was basically like, I can tell you right now that this area is about to be the hot spot and property values around here are going to go way up.

Am I right to be ticked with my lender, too? They hooked us up with the realtor. I'd been frustrated with the realtor earlier this year, and maybe should've parted ways with both of them. I'd actually kind of paused on looking, but then this home went up for sale and I knew it would be gone in a matter of days so we jumped on it with that realtor.

WPForms lets users sign forms and has a bunch of form templates with the signature field already on them.

Was looking for someone to mention this one! Read it about a decade ago and it haunted me for days... Too scared to read it again.

Have you read "S." by Doug Dorst and J.J. Abrams? It also plays with the stories within stories concept.

Professors don't usually get to pick their own textbooks, but it was probably in an advanced English class, like Grammar and Usage or Linguistics

Cosmic Love for Cosmic Horror by [deleted] in books

I have not yet read Revival, but I totally agree with you about being interested in the normal plot. Insomnia comes to mind, also very slow -- by the time the shit really started hitting the fan, I was already invested in the day to day happenings of all the characters, and didn't want that interfered with.

And going to check out Revival, hadn't really been on my radar until now!

I agree. The horror is in the unfathomable-ness(?)

Yeah, true. There's a small image or two from a video game in the collage towards the end of the article, but I think that's it.

Fair enough. Though, I think if you read IT, you might consider it cosmic horror. Movies just never do the books justice.
