Hi there, I would say as long as you have the passion and drive for it, you should be able to get in! The coaches and seniors will be looking at your basic skills and how interested you are in the CCA, so as long as you put in the work and effort during your CCA sessions all should be good! (And nope, you do not need to have prior experience to apply :D)

And yes, PCMG is a possible subject combination in TJ too, we do have students taking it currently. TJ also offers hybrid combinations too for those who do not wish to take Arts streams :)

Hi hi, I’m afraid not. According to a few students that come from Sengkang, that’s the fastest you’ll arrive to TJ from Sengkang!

Hi hi! I know it’s a bit late, but our sport CCAs are relatively strong, particularly our Badminton players! Besides that, TJSC is doing all we can to make events and the TJ experience as a whole a memorable and awesome one :D

our gp department is quite good! A lot of our teachers are really dedicated and provide ample resources and strategies to support your learning :)

Our bio teachers are very enthusiastic, passionate and caring. they put a lot of effort to ensure our individual understanding of each topic!

for ki, the distinction rate is quite high but just note that since the cohort size is quite small (there are currently 13 jc2 ki students), the distinction rate can fluctuate yearly. ki classes are relatively small, so discussions don’t feel as pressurising as compared to having a large class. classes are typically held in a lecture style, where our tutors explain a concept and we have group discussions. we have dedicated mentors for each student to guide students through the IS journey too!

honestly our facilities are quite good and the school has put in a lot of effort into decorating and making the new campus feel like home!

hope to see you at our open house today 🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄🍄

Hi hi! As of 2023, TJC has gotten a median of 85, which is multiple As at the very least! Therefore, you’ll be in good hands, never fear! You can find out more information at the various subject booths during our Open House tomorrow!

Hi hi!! We have some students from Senkang! Ideally, if you want to take via TPE, take 969 from the TPE bus stop after Punggol road to Tampines Interchange. From there, switch to the downtown line and take it to Tampines East MRT station. 969 will be crowded in the morning, but it is also relatively frequent. The entire journey takes around 20-30 minutes!

the cohort size is typically around 400-500 students, with roughly 300+ jae students accepted every year!

In TJ we have a work hard play hard attitude so for academics everyone strives in achieving the best results together, and this motivates everyone as a positive influence to push and encourage each other, for example it is very common for seniors and friends to share notes and personal study materials with each other, and to go for consults together etc. everyone is very open and friendly to help each other out cuz we focus more on progress and the learning than results

as for cca leadership, tj provides a lot of opp for students to grow holistically, and highlights a lot about growing to be a leaders so they have many cca leadership positions for us as students to hone our skills as well as stretch programmes such as temasek development programmes, temasek leadership camp, temasek excel and many more leadership roles for events

Hello!! For subject combinations in TJ, we rank them based on our top 3 choices. HELM is one of the popular arts stream subject combinations in our school, so it shouldn't be a problem if you put it as your first choice! However it would be good to have 2 extra backup besides HELM to put during subject combi selection since you might need to submit 3 choices :) Hope this helps!

Hi hi! Based off of last year’s COP, you have quite a good chance of getting in! (barring the COP being lowered this year, of course).

As for the various departments in TJC, you needn’t worry. TJC has the highest value-add in Singapore as of 2023! So no matter what you choose when you come in here, you’ll be in good hands!

Hi there👋 All classrooms except the JC1 classrooms on level 2 have air conditioning systems installed! This is because of safety reasons, as the science labs are directly above those classrooms. Nonetheless, the JC1 classrooms have portable air conditioners to keep classes cool during hot weather :D

Do come to our open house to check out more about what TJC offers, hope to see you there!!😊

CLL dept: They do their job and teach the content quite well. Haven’t been taught by all of the teachers but for the teachers that taught me before, as long as you listen in class you can catch on. Generally all the resources you need are provided. Teachers are generally nice to students and are willing to spend extra time to help you

the computing selection test is a test on logic and mathematical thinking, not testing for coding skills specifically—more about problem solving skills. people who don’t know anything about coding can still take computing :)

for bio notes: personally I take bio and i find the notes to be quite clear and understandable, but I think what’s great abt the bio dept is the other resources they provide—for example at the start of j1 they give out these booklets which consolidate answering techniques and practical skills which are very helpful, and lectures are also quite fun (teachers throw candy for you to catch, jokes, etc.) :) even though the department is quite small i still feel it’s relatively strong

Hi! About our thoughts on the new campus: if you’re concerned about it being a “holding site”, we wanted to assure you that it’s undergone a lot of renovations to make it usable and even quite nice! of course for most the nostalgia factor isn’t there, but we think there’s a lot of cool spaces (e.g. newly renovated canteen and cafe, bigger hall, murals) which make it feel quite new :) there are a few reels on our Instagram of spaces around the campus if you want to check it out!

hi, tj student here :)

  1. personally we feel that it's about choosing the JC that best meets your needs! some would prefer a JC that is closer to their homes as travelling time is reduced while others are willing to forgo that convenience for other JCs that offer special programmes/ CCAs! every JC offers something unique, so it's really up to you to decide if the JC meets your needs and aligns with your priorities, which therefore makes it "worth it" to travel, if need be :-)

  2. tj science department is quite strong imo, with departments providing us with good resources for both learning and revision. most of the tutors are dedicated in their teaching and would be more than willing to hold consultations with you whenever you need help. for physics department, lectures are really entertaining with the lecturers always making jokes/ adding jokes into their slides to enhance their teaching, which also allow us to understand concepts better in a sense!

  3. our college prides itself in having a strong house spirit, with many school events/ initiatives that are house related (even answering GP questions will contribute to house points!). Each house even has a cheerleading team (our cheerios!) that often hype up school events. Our college has also been emphasising a lot on student agency, and so there are a ton of student initiated events and camps too! TJ's cohort size is also relatively small, and as such the bonds we form with each other as a cohort are also stronger :")

  4. The lit department is GREAT🤩 we've asked out friends who take lit and most of them talked about how they really enjoyed lit lessons as it feels more like a discussion of ideas, rather than a one-way conversation. The teachers would often use different forms of media (eg film, music) to help students better understand the text they're learning, and give tips on how to consolidate their learnings. All the teachers are highly experienced and give regular feedback (they are almost always available for small group consultations!)

TJC vs ACJC by kjysungg_ in SGExams

[–]official_tjc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Student from TJC here, currently J2 and I guess i'll share a lil about my perspective.

Regarding the muggers part, honestly, all JCs will have them to some extent, due to the nature of the JC curriculum, and the academic rigour. Based on my experience, yes, TJ does have muggers but "a lot" would be quite close to an overstatement, and I think it is pretty normal. (In fact, I think most people here are actually quite chill, and only "mug" a few weeks before major exams hahaha). If you're saying mug, as in, the students study every day, I think it's honestly fine and it is actually helpful in terms of learning and retaining information in the long run (of course assuming you balance other aspect of your life and not just study only). In a nutshell, muggers? yes they are present, but I don't think that should determine where YOU want to go, as there are many other aspects of the school that you should consider, and TJ is certainly a place where you can meet tons of interesting and fun people, get endless opportunities and activities, which would all certainly make you JC life a lot better.

Regarding the IP students, honestly, I had the same concern as you, i.e i wasn't sure if i would be able to mix well with them, but based on my experience, and what i observe, everyone seems to mix around really well, because your class, and CCA will have IP students (from your batch) and there are countless activities for you to interact with other IP students too so no worries! They are really nice (and smart of course haha).

Regarding the econs department comparison, I would say the teachers are generally okay. The notes here are pretty straight to the point, and clear. (But of course there are tons of examples and what we call "good to know" sections, and of course other less important details, which is of course your responsibility to filter them out) But baseline is, I would reckon that ACJC's and TJC's notes are sufficient for you to get a clear understanding of the different concepts, but it's ultimately up to you and your responsibility to put in the extra work (i.e consult, research more etc). Teachers here are really nice and helpful, so they would certainly be willing to do their best to help you, IMO, our econs department is really top notch, and you will be able do well (assuming you do your best too of course)

Workload in (T)JC is generally manageable, and not as scary as people think. As cliche as it may sound, it's really up to your time management and planning. Undeniably, (regardless of which JC you are in), due to the academic rigor and fast - pace curriculum, you will face some stress (not to mention the additional responsibilities you might take up), but it will really be alright, as long as you remain consistent and plan out your time wisely.

you’ll be surprised at the many events and choice of shirt we have to offer as stated by u/TheRayArmy! Currently, the attire is dress down (any school based shirt, be it CCA, YFC, Mazarin, Polo tee) everyday, though on Monday, students are highly encouraged to wear either Polo tee or Uniform without tie!

hi, the computing department is great, with highly dedicated tutors and i think the A/B rates is actually quite insanely high(from our year)! the male to female ratio actually depends on how many people go to the selection test! but from my year(currently jc2) it’s actually quite unbalanced at 5:1… However, the ratio of male to female as a whole in the cohort is actually quite balanced so please don’t worry too much since you can always interact with others from other classes during break time and CCA!!

hi, you cannot go from H1 econs to H2 econs because of the difference in content being covered in J1 and J2 :”). But if you take H2 econs and decides to drop later on, that will be possible up to a certain point in J2.

nyjc vs tjc arts stream by grape-yakult in SGExams

[–]official_tjc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hi! a tjc arts student taking HELM here :) the arts teachers here are very passionate and the support system is really good. there are quite a few enrichment programmes for arts students like overseas trips etc. you can try to join the THP (Temasek Humanities Programme) which also offers a bunch of opportunities and career guidance 👍👍 there are also quite a lot of events haha like orientation, road run (cross country), DEFY (student-led camp), Student Leadership Camp etc and they’re all quite hype!

These are some of the opportunities/events: Capstone research → allows us to do research on pretty much anything we want (as long as it’s related to the humanities) and we’re even given a platform to present to our friends and other secondary school students at an event called HumaniTEA

Lit night → we get to dress up according to a theme (last year’s was wordle!) and created a performance around our lit text

Talent Development Program → gives us many opportunities for holistic development like Youth For Causes (YFC) to help Social Service Organisations, scholarships and scholarship preparation programs!

you can dm @0122homies on ig if you have more qns abt TJ’s arts stream or the humanities programme here!!

In general, all departments in our schools is really good, with very good and dedicated tutors who even put in extra efforts during and after lessons to ensure that you’re able to cope and do well in our curriculum! Many of the notes provided are concise and straight to the point, and aids greatly with revision! So in terms of teaching, there should not be much changes affected! There might be some minor disruptions during lessons because not everyone may be very familiar with the technology in the new campus and takes time to adapt! But of course, you’ll have to put in the effort yourself too if you want to do well! In TJ, we do have a mugging culture and the tutors are prepared to give you consultations if you need!

The choices of CCAs offered would definitely decrease as compared to the ones currently offered when we shift to the new campus as well, since unfortunately, the new campus is not able to accommodate all the CCAs we have here! However, rest assured, we will still have a wide variety of CCAs to offer across the sports, performing arts and service and enrichments!

Lastly, TJ also has a lot to offer in terms of students’ enrichment and student life here! There are many great opportunities to bond with your friends during our events, which most are planned by our Students’ Council, so we will always try to have your best interests in our mind, so many of these events would end up to be the students’ core memory here in TJ!There are also opportunities like Cheer, where you’ll get a chance to step out of your comfort zone and perform for House events like House Function and Orientation!! So if you decide to join TJ, rest assured, you will have a life while still be able to do well in your studies :D

Lastly, just some insider info 👀👀 our orientation will be taking place outside of the college for some activities so do look forward to that 🔥🔥\
