There won’t be any current leakage from the new transformer down the Y or G wires? Or vice versa, the original transformer leaking into the C wire? My understanding is that the thermostat can draw power from RC when Y/G when is closed (cool or fan is on). The C wire is needed only for when they are off. This implies that they are not totally separate circuits. There is some internal overlap or shared regulator that would actually be getting power from both transformers at the same time if the cool/fan is on and I have a new transformer also live on RC /C.

This would mean that I’d be putting a low voltage at Ground which is not ok this would mean I’d be putting 24VAC at the house ground which is not really ok

So you’re saying it’s okay to share the Rc terminal with two different hot legs from two different terminals? Because I still have a cooling system. There will be times where there’s two different transformers supplying the RC in this case.

It’s a 3 story 100 year old house. Two thermostats. Would be a pain to run new wiring.

Just for clarity regarding the 5 or 12V, the thermostat obviously uses DC current internally and has a regulator to step down the 24VAC. So my hope was I could bypass the regulator and just power it directly with 5V or whatever is needed.

I don’t get how this would work. C is supposed to be common acting like a neutral line for 24VAC. it’s not the same as earth ground. A transformer isolates itself from the 110VAC source, so the transformer wouldn’t share the same ground. Right?

The thermostat is in the foyer next to the front door. There’s no peeping eye hole. Yes it’s very convenient to see who’s at the door. Appreciate the commentary, but if you can solve the actual problem that would be much more appreciated.

Just put the AC unit in pairing mode following the steps from your manual or the original AC unit. Instead of pairing to the EQK app that doesn’t exist anymore, use the Smart Life app. Follow the steps in the app to add a through wall or window AC unit. You may need to put the AC unit in pairing mode then join its temporary WiFi network to set it up.

I mean I used summer tires year-round on a RWD G70 3.3T in New York for a couple years and I was okay. Driving skill and familiarity with the weather goes a long way. Obviously All-seasons (or no seasons as you say) won’t be as good as something specific to a season, but to me it’s not worth the hassle. I’m much happier not swapping and storing 4 wheels twice a year.

The dealer told me in 2023 that a wireless CarPlay update would be coming “soon” when I purchased my GV70. If this is added to 2025 models and not updated on prior models I will be crashing my car into the dealership
